I Reread this last night - Who Funds The Federalist? Finally, We Know.

https://www.exposedbycmd.org/2020/12/09/who-funds-the-federalist-finally-we-know/

The Uihleins
The Federalist may have once had a “never Trump” image, but the conservative publication moved quickly rightward as President Donald Trump became president and took over the Republican Party. The outlet is now known for vigorously defending Trump, for its trolling and conspiracy-laden posts, and for attacking liberal media. Sometimes trafficking in racism, The Federalist had a “black crime” tag until someone exposed the tag on Twitter.

It’s unclear when Uihlein, the Illinois-based founder of shipping supply company Uline, began funding The Federalist, but it makes sense that his foundation, the Ed Uihlein Family Foundation, donated $400,000 to the FDRLST Media Foundation last year. Uihlein and his wife, Liz, are influential Trump donors and among the Republican Party’s biggest funders; Uihlein is the fifth-biggest donor to outside political spending groups of the 2020 federal elections, having doled out over $63 million to super PACs such as the pro-Trump America First Action, Club for Growth Action, the Senate Leadership Fund, and Restoration PAC, which he funded nearly exclusively.

The New York Times reported in August that, based on interviews, Richard Uihlein was a donor to The Federalist, but his foundation’s 2019 tax return is the first evidence of his financial support to be made public.

A big thick Uline catalogue of office supply stuff. I never needed anything so I never ordered anything. Glad I didn’t.

But that doesn’t mean the station where I worked didn’t order anything from it, though.

Man, I remember way back when I used to order from Uline for the business I was working for.

So, Real Clear Politics, eh? I also remember over a decade ago one of my doctors telling me to read it and join in the discussions.

Thankfully I'm old enough to know better.

These horrible old white man billionaires are the worst. What a plague they are on this country.

Our corporate overlords know they can corrupt government, pack the courts, buy out the Fourth Estate and even subvert democracy and the electoral process, but they are helpless when workers organize and refuse to be exploited. That's why they fight unions so vigorously.

What is it with with billionaires wanting to destroy our democracy???

It's what allowed them to get filthy-rich. You would think they would be grateful. But no, they act like democracy is just in their way.

.....deal that granted the Uihlein's access to undeveloped protected lakefront property that they wanted so they could build on the lakeshore. This might have been an early connection between the Uihlein's and the Federalist Society.

I don't remember all the details, probably because Scott Walker and his army of foot soldiers were doing so much damage to so many democratic foundations throughout the state that it was hard to keep track.

I do remember that lots of state agencies were involved to the extent that they were strong-armed to do whatever needed to be done to make it happen.

The property was on a pristine lake in the Minocqua / Manitowish Water region. And the local "hometown" newspaper is a hard right-leaning propaganda publication.

It is still in business and still supports right-wing idealogy.

And when money is no object, any obstruction can be bulldozed down. In this case... figuratively and literally, to cut in a new access road and building spot.

Hey, fellow Northern Wisconsin people, can you add anything to my memories of the above event or correct my mistake?

22. Liz's Letter on the ULINE website:

In which she disingenuously communicates some of the favorite right wing talking points:

What is the American Dream? Most people say it's a spouse, kids, a good job and a nice house with a big yard.
It's a belief that if you work hard, you can build a better life for your family. That dream is the reason people
around the world have always come to America.

What are American Values? Uh oh…ask people what American values we can agree on, and it falls apart. Today, we
are a very splintered country. Seemingly, we have four political groups: far left, center left, center right and far right.

WHAT – IF ANYTHING – CAN WE AGREE ON?
FREEDOM – Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.
Equal opportunity for everyone. Freedom. We seem to
pretty much agree on.

CRIME – Violent crime is a serious issue. The best cultural,
academic institutions and medical facilities are usually
in our big cities. Businesses are leaving due to constant,
large-scale theft and crime. Will these all deteriorate?

HOMELESS – Should they be allowed to live on the
streets or not? If so, where?

DRUGS – Marijuana was illegal for many years. We were told it was a gateway drug. Today, almost 45% of our population is using marijuana in some form or another. Marijuana impairs your ability to think quickly, weakens your motor skills and can affect your memory.

GAMBLING – It seems now anything goes. You can gamble at the casino, on your phone and online. You can bet on any football game right from your couch.
Is this what we want for our children?

IMMIGRATION REFORM – This country was built on
legal immigration. Immigrants are an asset. Open
border policy with no legality is causing untold issues
in our country.

ENERGY POLICIES – Full speed ahead on solar power and
electric vehicles? Or can we be smarter? If we are not
careful, we will be having rolling blackouts. In addition,
China is building 136 coal plants and manufacturing
97% of solar wafers. Meanwhile, American politicians are
talking about banning gas stoves.

ELECTIONS – Yet another election! The
candidate you like best in the primary
might not be the one that can win
in the general election. Voting in
primary elections deserves much
more thought.

What a mess. Stay calm, take a
deep breath and try to do the
best you can.
