Judge Aileen Cannon's decision to keep the classified document trial dates as they stand, despite Donald Trump's rescheduling request, could be an attempt to cause problems for the Georgia prosecutor who has charged the former president with trying to overturn the 2020 election, according to NYU law professor Andrew Weissmann.

While some legal analysts took to social media to indicate their suspicions that the Florida judge will likely allow Trump to have whatever he requests, Weissman wonders if this new ruling isn't targeted at Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.

"This doesn't change my opinion of Cannon one iota," said Weissmann, a critic of Cannon's. "By allowing Trump to later move to delay the trial, but keeping the date for now, she is blocking Fani Willis from scheduling her trial on the current FLA date. And Cannon has substantially delayed the dates for all FLA filings."

the more she drags out (without an official "on paper" decision on any number of critical motions) the more likely that she'll be forced to delay the May date--much to her "client," Trump's delight. It seems apparent that she made this statement today only to avoid Fanni Willis being able to move into that May date with her case, yet I hold out zero belief that Cannon intends to keep it. She will just stay close enough to the line to avoid prosecution from demanding a recusal while ultimately delaying things sufficiently that that May date will never happen.

After the blow back from the ridiculous admonishment of Smith, she knew that she was in danger of being taking off the trial.

I heard all kinds of legal eagles talk about why she shouldn’t delay it for a variety reasons, legal and political. She may be trying to force the DC trial later. We’ll see.

Donald Trump's petty mob-boss mentality is going to cause him to be very angry with Judge Aileen Cannon. In his mind, she *owes* him because he got her the job. He will view her unwillingness to push the trial past the election as an unforgivable betrayal.

This is just the prevent the Atlanta case taking up the dates in the calendar. She will wait until the Atlanta case sets trial dates, and then use those dates, the NY case set in January as a followup of the sexual assault charges.

She will say her hands are tied and then it will be too close to the election so 2025 would be the earliest. And she will blame everyone else.....
