Charles P. Pierce: It's Official: Mike Johnson Is Even Less Competent Than Kevin McCarthy Was

We're now barreling toward a government shutdown and the House of Representatives is completely paralyzed.

................

The fact is that the Republican Party has gotten itself in a box on abortion and, once in there, it has driven nails to secure the lid on the box for the foreseeable future. There is a large, well-financed, well-established faction within conservative politics—a faction, I might add, that feels it has been played for suckers by generations of Republican politicians—that will not move on this question, and that will attach its fanaticism to any and all issues, in any and all ways possible, and by any means necessary. The policies favored by this faction are hilariously unpopular almost everywhere, so much so that they're millstones around the neck of every Republican politician, even the ones who have the slightest interest in, you know, governing. Now, however, this foolishness is coming to exact a national cost. Insanity...breaks out.

10. God likes killing children. What's the problem?

I figure all the children on Earth but for those on the Ark drowned in the Flood He sent. Imagine their little bloated bodies floating on the waves by the million, their eyes pecked out by seagulls. All 'cause He threw a hissy over what their parents were and sent the water they died in. Millions of children, infants & toddlers.

Then there's this:

Blessed is the one who seizes your infants
and dashes them against the rocks

That's Psalm 137

Yes, you read it correctly. The Loving God will bless you when you kill the children of his enemies.

That leads to another question...why does God need ME to kill his enemies? Can't He do that Himself?

Republicans in Congress talk criticize the GOP as if they aren't members. It would be fun to watch if they were the minority party in the House.

...donors will send a very harsh message by no longer funding GOP PACS. Peter Thiel is not an outlier, he is the writing on the wall.

They needed somebody worse.

When they discover somebody worse than Mike, he'll be toast too.

House speaker Mike Johnson sent the House home early this weekend, despite a government shutdown looming next week, and will speak at an oversees gathering of right-wing leaders and influencers from Europe and North America.

The group Republicans Overseas will host the World Freedom Initiative on Friday and Saturday in Paris, France, where Johnson will join 22 speakers, including South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, Rep. Alex Mooney (R-WV), former Donald Trump campaign manager David Bossie and various right-wing figures from France, Hungary and other European nations, reported KELO-TV.
