By the way, Alon seated beside Sally Abed, a Palestinian and they are part of Standing Together, the largest grassroots Jewish-Arab organization in Israel. A worthy one to support for those interested. My cousins in Israel are part of it.
Brave people all. There are many more you can find for those who might think they are alone here.

(96,882 posts)...or free the civilian hostages they currently hold?
Nanjeanne
(6,589 posts)your question is above my pay grade.
Here's my best guess. Nothing Israel is doing now will get rid of Hamas. If every Hamas person is killed - something will always come to take their place. You don't murder every single person and think that the children of those who survive being collateral damage will embrace Netanyahu's way. That's what many people believe - so while I may be an aging peacenik from long ago --- obviously I'm not alone in my thinking.
So -
Peace is negotiation. Freeing hostages is negotiation. You don't make peace with your friends. You make peace with your enemies. You cannot have peace with unequal rights. Perhaps new leaders in both Israel and among Palestinians can find a way. Perhaps we look at how peace and the end of apartheid came to South Africa. Perhaps we look at the resolution of the conflict in Northern Ireland and the Joint Declaration of Peace in 1993.
Perhaps they shift the paradigm. Perhaps a rights-based approach that espouses universal values and norms would help. Perhaps the United States has a real role to play in working towards a rights-based solution. A military occupation isn't going to do it.
...Edited to say - this was a post of hope. It was a post of respect for humanity. It was a post of gratitude for those Israeli and Palestinians who want to work towards peace. It was for those people who feel beaten down by the endless stream of man's inhumanity to man. It once again devolved into something it never was intended for. So sad.

(6,589 posts)will have some sway. They aren't chanting bombs away.
Holding signs of their missing loved ones, yellow ribbons, and Israeli flags, and chanting Bring Them Home, hundreds of families of Israeli hostages in Gaza set out Tuesday on a five-day trek from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem demanding that the Israeli government facilitate a deal for the return of all the hostages and make .
It's from Haaretz. I can't post the link since you need to be a subscriber to view their articles (I am but the link won't allow you).
But you can certainly find out about this march to "Bring Them Home" online.

(96,882 posts)They're also not marching for a ceasefire.

(2,248 posts)There is a website with the address archive.ph use that web address, and youll see a red box at the top of the page that says, My url is alive and I want to archive its contents. Input the web address of the page youd like to read, then press Save. It might take a minute, but as it archives the page it will render it so you can read the whole thing.

(13,688 posts)Hamas will continue to murder Jews every chance it gets until Israel is no more. That is their stated goad as emphasized by one of their leaders recently. So how can Israel negotiate with an entity like that?
