PA: Democrats win control of Dauphin County commissioners board for first time in 100 years

The Democrats have done it.

After vote totals from provisional ballots were added to the unofficial vote count Monday, Dauphin County Commissioner candidate Justin Douglas appeared to have an insurmountable lead over Republican incumbent Chad Saylor for the third and final seat on the board.

“I am profoundly grateful to the voters who have proven that local elections wield significant influence and that the voice of the people can bring about transformative change,” Douglas said in a statement issued after Monday’s vote count update. “This win is a testament to the power of community-driven politics, and I am honored to be entrusted with this responsibility.”

Douglas’s election, along with that of top vote-getter and Democrat incumbent Commissioner George Hartwick, gives the Democratic Party its first majority in the county commissioners office here in more than 100 years. Hartwick and Douglas will be joined by Republican incumbent Mike Pries, who was re-elected to a fourth full term in office.
