General Discussion

very interesting and different than cable news. Basically, it's much better and really goes into detail, showing the visit from many different locations and viewpoints.
It covered all the protests in San Francisco (and SF knows how to protest) and the Chinese students bussed in to cheer their leader. It covers how the location of the meeting, which was not in SF, was only revealed at the last minute, even to the WH press corps.
Anyone local knows the location of the meeting, Woodside, is extremely upscale, even by Bay Area standards. The only time I ever set foot there was to attend a fundraiser for John Kerry years ago. Let's just say exclusive is an understatement.
Apparently, the Xi demanded this location as part of his careful staging. I think it's because the mansion looks vaguely like the White House, especially in a tight shot.
If you're in the Bay Area, try to catch the local news on TV tonight. They're doing a great job!

(4,598 posts)Very good local coverage. Where I used to work in the City is 1 block away from one of the protests (6th & Mission). A friend who still works there said they were encouraged to work from home today.
I Love Woodside! I used to live in Redwood City when I was younger, then we moved to La Honda! (my 2nd favorite place on Earth). We would pass through Woodside on our way to La Honda. Redwoods Galore! I love it up there. Wish I still lived in that area. Now I'm in the North bay in the Napa area. Here we have lots of hills and oak trees, but no Redwoods. Beautiful, but in a different way.

(24,421 posts)There are so many beautiful areas around here, and such a variety of microclimates and scenery! We are really living in God's Country, to quote John Steinbeck.
