Apple halts all advertising on X after Musk agrees with antisemitic post

According to a new report from Axios, Apple is pausing all advertising on Twitter, the social media platform currently known as X.

The move comes after a report on Thursday highlighted that ads from Apple and other companies were shown alongside far-right conspiracy theories and antisemitic content.

Today’s report from Axios cites anonymous sources and says that Apple is “pausing all advertising” on X. There are no further details on how long this pause will last. It follows similar decisions from IBM, who announced plans to pause all advertising on the platform on Thursday.

A report from Media Matters on Thursday highlighted that ads from a number of companies were being shown alongside posts containing far-right conspiracy theories and antisemitic content. The report cited examples including ads from Apple, IBM, Oracle, and more.

Gotta admire the courage of “pausing” ads on Twitter, so that they can quietly re-enable them when the controversy blows over.

or did they just cut down on it ?

We need to be louder about this and pressure others to stop.

5. And yet DUers keep posting cute little videos from Twitter.

Because it is more important for them to post cute videos, than to take a stand against nazis. I don't get it. We've been trying to tell them, and I'm just not sure why they don't get it.

If you post a twitter video on this site, every click on it registers with advertisers. And puts money in the nazi's pocket. It may just be a few cents, but it adds up.

Personally? I don't like giving money to nazis. Call it "cancel culture" if you want, but I like canceling nazis.

Go figure.

Here's about all that anyone besides Cook and Musk know or care to talk about.

https://www.macrumors.com/2023/11/17/apple-pauses-ads-on-x/

Apple did temporarily pause ads on Twitter back in November 2022, which spurred Musk to lash out and ask if Apple hated "free speech." Musk also said that Apple had threatened to remove Twitter from the App Store, and said that he would "make an alternative phone" if the social network was ultimately pulled.

The dispute was resolved after Musk met with Cook at Apple Park later that year, after which Musk claimed that Apple had in fact never threatened to remove Twitter from the ‌App Store‌ and that it was a "misunderstanding." Musk ultimately called it a "good conversation," and after that point, Apple "fully resumed" advertising. Reports in 2022 suggested Apple was spending more than $100 million per year on Twitter ads.

With Musk's latest comments, and evidence that X is showing Apple ads alongside pro-Hitler content, it is unclear if Apple will be convinced to resume advertising again sometime in the future. Apple CEO Tim Cook in September said that Apple is "constantly" evaluating whether Apple should be buying ads on the social network.

Posting them here might offend the rules against RW content. You may see them at the link.

The pro-Hitler posts are just garbage, and ads for the aforementioned companies are right next to them.

14. Twitter does have 400 million viewers worldwide

And about 70 million of those are Americans which means one in every 5 Americans is at some point on Twitter. Japan has the next largest numbers of Twitter users followed by India, UK, Brazil, Indonesia, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Mexico and Thailand.

What I like about Twitter is you get breaking news hours before it hits cable news and you can get all kinds of opinions on that news - not censored. Lula from Brazil posts often & so do most all of our reps in Congress plus President Biden and Obama. Musk & Obama have the Twitter accounts with the most views. The next top 10 accounts are famous entertainers like Tayler Swift.

He did hire great scientists for SpaceX. He did buy a fledgling e-car company and hire some great people for it. But age and misc drugs gave him the big head and here we are at Twitter. Everyone is lucky that he hired great people for the top jobs at Tesla and SpaceX.
