No charges for baby killing after birth. If the younger one was still in the womb, there would be an execution of the mom.

Parent ended one young life and destroyed the life of the child that killed its sibling. It is a horrible lesson to have learned with such tragedy. If this parent has any conscience, her life is gonna be hell as well.
One gun, 3 people destroyed. In today’s environment who knows why this mother had a need for that gun, abusive husband, or just terrified of our gun society that puts her life a risk. MAGA has and will continue to drive people to guns just to protect themselves. Easy access with zero training or education about safety will keep causing these senseless tragedies.
If Trump loses again, shit, we are all gonna be at risk of being shot, on purpose.

How the hell can ANY gun-owning parent NOT consider that this could happen and act accordingly? My parenting friends used to make fun of me for my anticipating everything that could happen (like commenting on the old-time refrigerators with the door handle left on that could lock without a means to get out and similarly old cars whose trunks similarly could trap kids and that frequented abandoned properties kids loved to explore... but likewise a zillion other issues). But, my parents instilled this in me. I am constantly on guard for things that could pose harm to my doggy girl as well.

May some miraculous event cause AMERICANS to turn their backs on this gun obsession and ALL demand responsible gun safety measures.

How can any parent be so blasé leaving a loaded gun where a child can get ahold of it?
I raised 3 kids and this just does not compute for me.

Mayor Jerome A. Prince and Gary Police Chief Anthony Titus stressed that it’s important for adults to take action to properly secure firearms and other devices that could “become weapons in the hands of innocent children.” In particular, they urged the use of gun boxes or gun locks for securing firearms.

WHY ISN'T IT A LAW????????????????

Or how about maybe buying a model with a safety?

Either of those simple steps would prevent a toddler from firing a handgun, or even a careless adult.

It takes less than a second to flip a safety off, and maybe a second or two to rack a round. If you train at it, you will have plenty of time to react in an emergency, which most people will never face.

Officers were dispatched to a local hospital Friday night about a 2-year-old gunshot victim. The child’s mother told officers there that her 3-year-old son found the gun in her purse after she left a bedroom, and he accidentally shot his younger sibling, who later died from his injury.

The Lake County Prosecutor’s Homicide Task Force is investigating the shooting, which occurred inside a home in Gary.

“We do criminal investigations, and then we present that to the Lake County prosecutor, who makes a decision whether it’s negligence or an unfortunate accident,” Gary Police Commander Sam Roberts told WLS-TV.

Mayor Jerome A. Prince and Gary Police Chief Anthony Titus stressed that it’s important for adults to take action to properly secure firearms and other devices that could “become weapons in the hands of innocent children.” In particular, they urged the use of gun boxes or gun locks for securing firearms.

maybe if there was a law that REQUIRED guns to be "properly secured" then they could charge these people without the "they already lost a child" guilt and thereby give the parent a pass for their irresponsibility for not locking their fucking gun up

The brother died. I simply am unable to process the level of violence that we see everyday. Where has this come from? I have siblings and when were were all children, we fought occasionally but we never ever hit one another. Are children today raised with so much violence around them that that’s the only reaction they know?

When their mom went down to corner store to buy something. They were playing with the gun and it accidentally went off. My Aunt never forgave him and I remember he was always sad looking. He was a very handsome man who had a gorgeous loving wife that urged him to get therapy. When he died my Mother said his brother was waiting for him and forgive him. My mother was in the throes of late stage dementia when she said that!

Mom thinks she needs a gun in her purse to feel safe. Kids see something shiny, take it out to play with it. One of them needs a funeral. Sometimes it's Mom who needs the funeral.

I lived in some of the shittiest areas in Boston and I never wanted a gun. For one thing, I think they're noisy, smelly, and crude in that any idiot (or child) can pull a trigger. For another, I always thought it would give me a false sense of security. Developing some pretty ironclad street smarts was a better defense.

It's not a perfect defense, nothing is. But nobody's going to take my street smarts away from me and shoot me with them, either.
