My parents excluded. They have been gone for 38+ years, and would be utterly appalled.

Not all. I've known plenty of the ones who never went to a protest, and who didn't get into the counterculture thing at all.

And there were a lot more of them than there were of the protesters. They simply didn't get the attention, because they were 'boring' and 'ordinary.'

...praise be to God that my parents never got in to Fox "News". They watch the local news and half an hour of national news (usually NBC or ABC). But as a caregiver who does home visits, I have seen clients who are Fox viewers. Those people were fearful, angry and woefully uninformed. That's the true Murdoch legacy.
