Phoenix dog recovering after allegedly being shot in the face by neighbor

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) - A dog shot over the weekend in Phoenix is recovering on Tuesday night. His owners say a neighbor opened fire on the two-year-old Siberian Husky named Falco, who was in his yard at the time. They say the dog stuck its nose through a hole in the fence, and the neighbor pulled the trigger. The bullet went through his nose and lodged in his tongue.

“Why? What made you think in your head that it was okay?” Falco’s owner Hailey Hernandez asked. Hernandez and her fiancé Zachary Zuran still don’t understand how 45-year-old Matthew Wazny could allegedly shoot Falco. “It’s just cruel, it’s just very cruel,” Zuran said. “And he needs to learn his lesson.”

Court documents say on Sunday, Phoenix Police responded to a call of shots fired that struck a dog. When police arrived and questioned Wazny, he matched the suspect’s description from the original 911 caller. When he was taken into custody, police say the weapon found matched the one used to shoot Falco. “They arrested him on the spot, saw blood on his shirt, his hand,” Zuran said. “He admitted that he didn’t like the dog’s barking so he shot him.”

Phoenix Police say Wazny was noticeably intoxicated and unwilling to cooperate with the investigation. “He just needs to get some help,” Hernandez said.

There was a 12 year old child with the dog as well. This guy needs to have all his weapons confiscated!!!

So senseless, stupid and maddening... hopefully he gets some consequences that hurt him.

I'd say I hope his life is ruined, but he probably did that long before this incident.

Cruelty to animals? Reckless endangerment of a child?

How effing horrible of him. Poor dog!

Siberians are good dogs. Yes, they bark. They do like to wander. But, they're great pets.

How did the shooter get blood on his hand and shirt? He's very lucky he didn't shoot the kid.

A civil suit is probably coming up. But, the parents seem very mild mannered. And they have to live next to this maniac.

I'm no huge fan of dogs (attack survivor), but I would never do something to harm one, even though I've had my share of frustration with neighbors who don't control their barking dogs.

Plenty of ways to deal with the barking issue, but shooting the dog isn't one of them.

First order of business--repair your bloody fence so the dog doesn't have a hole to stick his nose in. Sheesh. Would that have been so difficult?
