There's no "economic uncertainty" bullshit to hide behind now. Not that they even try to hide it anymore

IQ45 is just a pathetic Strongman who "wins" by hurting others.

First row: Fujimori; Pinochet; Nicaragua's Anastasio Somoza (the elder)

Second row: Uruguay's Bordaberry (who, like Trump if he could've, was elected and then installed himself as dictator - only to be deposed himself because he didn't "go far enough" ); Videla (the worst of the six); and Cuba's Batista.

Juan Perón - though often labeled a "fascist" - was actually a very authoritarian social democrat: very pro-labor, women, minorities, religious freedom (first to include Jews and Agnostics in government) - and very much against corporate monopolies, absentee landowners, and holy rollers.

He also slashed the (then-bloated) defense budget, and plowed the savings into social programs - while paying off most of the foreign debt (which he warned would be used to plunder the country, if allowed to grow - as in fact later happened).

If you combined Bernie Sanders' policies, with Trump's tactics and crooked ethics - you'd probably get someone like Perón (except he was the one coup'ed by right-wingers, not the other way around).

Latin politics are full of layers and drama - especially Argentina's.

Sadly, voters in Bolivia - nostalgic for the pre-collapse 1970s as many were - returned him to power in 1997.

Once in office again, Banzer became known for his war on indigenous coca growers - while doing nothing to stem the actual illicit trade - and for the Cochabamba Water War.

You'll recall that the city's (overwhelmingly poor) residents were barred from even collecting rainwater - lest it eat into Bechtel's profits.

He lost both wars - and then a third, with lung cancer.

Argentina's Tucumán Province - which is near Bolivia and has a large indigenous/mestizo population - had a similar experience:

The governor during the early years of the last dictatorship (the most brutal part), Antonio Bussi, was likewise returned to office by voters in 1995.

Tucumán - like most of the country's north - had been largely left out of the "Argentine miracle" of the early '90s.

But it didn't get any better under Bussi - who moreover was saddled by numerous corruption scandals (plus news of an undeclared Swiss bank account).

His 1976-era crimes finally caught up with him after former President Néstor Kirchner had immunity revoked for Dirty War-era perpetrators. Bussi was jailed in 2008, and died three years later.

His son Ricardo ran unsuccessfully a number of times - but may now be poised for a cabinet post thanks to his support for far-right firebreather Javier Milei (who, as you may have heard, was just elected president).

Like weeds, these fascist characters have a way of re-emerging - watered by elites as they often are.

Qué será.

Well, when I watched all the news and video of all the millions flying just for Thanksgiving I have to wonder how their complaints about the cost of a dozen eggs and gasoline line up with their ability to fly wherever with their whole slam damn family for Thanksgiving dinner. Supposedly it's record setting numbers of flyers.

have created a condition where much of the population is at risk of mass psychosis. The situation has been exploited by well funded rightwing oligarchs controlling or manipulating mass media, including of course the new social media platforms, to magnify the risk and direct it toward a fascist revival that we are now in the midst of, not just here in the US, but globally.

The neofascists of course view their position as both necessary and moral. We are at risk from a plethora, a cornucopia of monsters of various sorts, all threatening to destroy 'our way of life'. Stern measuers are required to defeat the monsters. The great majority of our new fascists are psychotically delusional far more than they are immoral, although their leaders are generally not delusional and in fact fully aware of what they are doing and how they are doing it.
