(89,234 posts)I know people who work for him and he has a large property just up the road a couple miles. He's not what his PR makes him out to be. He dumps money around the county so people will think well of him even when he should be run off with a pitchfork up his privileged ass.
He's also trying to buy the entire valley and has acquired so much property that nobody will sell him anything around here anymore, unless they are magats. He really likes magats and hosts them at his private dude ranch. When asshole was in office, there was an annual 2 week long hoopla thing there where magats from the government would fly in on those big military helicopters, two at a time, flying below the ridge-line so as to be hard to spot. But if you live in the valley, it's hard not to notice them when they show up due to the overwhelming noise.
I don't have anything positive to say about old Art. Some folks think he's a local hero but the rest of us are hip to the stink on his shit.

(4,738 posts)Probably not up to your standards, but we can use a lot more like him.
"Blank is a strong supporter of the Democratic Party. During the 2020 elections, Blank contributed $300,000 to Biden Victory Fund, $35,000 to the Democratic National Convention, and tens of thousands of dollars to state Democratic Party committees. Blank also contributed $28,500 to the Obama Victory Fund in 2008.
"Following proposed changes to Georgia voting laws in early 2021, Blank released a statement saying, We should be working to make voting easier, not harder for every eligible citizen, and that his businesses and family foundation will support efforts that advance voting access for the citizens of Georgia and across the nation. 11 Blank also participated in an online call with over 100 corporate executives to discuss taking action following changes to state voting laws including the possibility of delaying investments in states that pass allegedly restrictive voting laws."

(9,187 posts)Home and builders store, pretty big and carry lots of wood priducjs. But the whole damn place is hard core Trump and Jebus cultist. Last time I tried to get some hardware and nails, the whole cash register area were standing and bitching about Biden and libs. Strained to walk out, leaving everything, but not saying a word. And like good Jebus folks, lots of fucks and sons of bitches thrown around as adjectives during their ranting. (as a former sailer, fine, but dont thump a damn Bible at me About morals). Fuck em, give my money to lowes, build will never do Home Depot. Not a lot of choices. But Lowes give Vets 10 percent off everything, everyday.
Thank God I am Poor enough to fit through that needle eye, and no assholes like these greedy old fucks will be on my side of the needle.

(21,963 posts)Only if I cant find something I need will I go that as a last resort because of that guys politics.
I hadn't set foot in one in 20 years - when I learned of their $taunch support for Mr. 9/11.
Then, a couple of years ago, I made the mistake of getting a couple of shelves because, well, traffic was heavy, and they were just across the street.
Before long, they started yielding and bending like a Repug congresscritter with a Big Biz or NRA lobbyist sitting in front of them.

(2,949 posts)Put more small business's out of business than anyone I can think of. What a hypocrite. We don't need people like him involved in our government.
When one of these anti-competitive monopolists or market dominators starts crying about "the little person" or the struggles of small businesses, watch your wallet. These people have done more to immiserate the middle class than anyone except the politicians they buy. How anyone could fall for such rank hypocrisy is beyond me.

(34,883 posts)Regardless of what a monster he is, home Depot is now a publicly traded company, and Marcus's sole say more is as a minority stockholder.
71% of the shares of home Depot stock are held by institutional investors (e.g.mutual fund managers) such as Vanguard Group Inc, BlackRock Inc., State Street Corp, Capital World Investors, VTSMX - Vanguard Total Stock Market Index Fund Investor Shares, VFINX - Vanguard 500 Index Fund Investor Shares, Geode Capital Management, Llc, Morgan Stanley, Bank Of America Corp /de/, and Capital Research Global Investors . Employees own about 1%. I haven't been able to find the percent owned by Marcus, but even if he held 100% of the privately owned shares, the maximum he could own would be 28%. Not enough to control any shareholder decision.
I know it's fun to hate on someone who deserves it. But boycotting Home Depot hurts employee stockholders, mutual fund investors, and retirees whose retirement plans include home Depot
Stock a lot more than it hurts Marcus.
