"SNIP.........

Only 36% of voters in a new Wall Street Journal/NORC survey said the American dream still holds true, substantially fewer than the 53% who said so in 2012 and 48% in 2016 in similar surveys of adults by another pollster.

Biden needs to do a 'Morning in America' type ad campaign.

A "dream" that has always been out of reach for many. Ocelot II Nov 2023 #3
Seems to me the American dream is really just basic human decency on a societal level. CrispyQ Nov 2023 #4

Is it an unrealistic expectation that includes a house in the suburbs and two nice cars, something that most Americans, especially POC, never had in the first place and is basically a holdover from the '50s?

for your retirement. To be able to afford extracurricular activities for your kids. To have a cushion of savings. To have options.... otherwise known as true freedom.

To work with dignity & have your contribution recognized by society, even if you're a homemaker or a trash collector. To make enough to support your family & have leisure time, daily, weekly, & yearly, to spend with said family. To have access to affordable healthcare, education, childcare, & eldercare. To be able to retire before you die, with some comforts, not freezing to death in your house or eating cat food. To know if you break the law the justice system will treat you the same as everyone else, regardless of race, gender, religion, politics, or how much your daddy makes.

We were never perfect but at least we seem to mostly agree to work toward those things. Hopefully, we still do but that remains to be seen. Worldwide it's not looking good for democracy & as climate change brings more & more chaos, democracy will be harder & harder to hold onto.

That's a hoot. Tell me then why are so many Mexicans trying to get into this country? Maybe they polled billionaires that don't think they have enough of money to buy that second yacht because the first one got dirty.
