Oklahoma GOP cited for lax reporting during 2020 election cycle
The Oklahoma Republican Party underreported more than $1 million in federal campaign-related expenditures during the 2020 election cycle, according to a recent Federal Election Commission audit, but it remains unclear whether that and other discrepancies were anything more than reporting and documentation failures.
"We told the FEC we tried to get the records and we couldn't get access to the information," said state Sen. Nathan Dahm, R-Broken Arrow, who became state party chairman earlier this year.
The discrepancies in the state party's Oklahoma Leadership Council political action committee date from 2019-2020. The treasurer at the time, Mike McCutchin, was undergoing cancer treatment and has since died.
According to Dahm, other state party insiders and the audit report released late last week, documentation is scant for the PAC during the 2019-20 cycle, though some may exist in password-protected digital files left by McCutchin.
