A Troubling Trump Pardon and a Link to the Kushners

Even amid the uproar over President Donald J. Trump’s freewheeling use of his pardon powers at the end of his term, one commutation stood out.

Jonathan Braun of New York had served just two and a half years of a decade-long sentence for running a massive marijuana ring, when Mr. Trump, at 12:51 a.m. on his last day in office, announced he would be freed.

Mr. Braun was, to say the least, an unusual candidate for clemency.

A Staten Islander with a history of violent threats, Mr. Braun had told a rabbi who owed him money: “I am going to make you bleed.” Mr. Braun’s family had told confidants they were willing to spend millions of dollars to get him out of prison.

At the time, Mr. Trump’s own Justice Department and federal regulators, as well as New York state authorities, were still after him for his role in an entirely separate matter: his work as a predatory lender, making what judges later found were fraudulent and usurious loans to cash-strapped small businesses.

Trump showed us just how many hokes there are in our laws and the Constitution. No president should be able to sell pardons as he did.

Giuliani] also asked Ms. Dunphy if she knew anyone in need of a pardon, telling her that he was selling pardons for $2 million, which he and President Trump would split. He told Ms. Dunphy that she could refer individuals seeking pardons to him, so long as they did not go through “the normal channels” of the Office of the Pardon Attorney, because correspondence going to that office would be subject to disclosure under the Freedom of Information Act.

He sold whatever people were willing to pay for. He monetized the office of president.

Yes Trump is a one man audit of the entire US system of government.
And we flunked the audit.

Years later, it was discovered that all of President Trump's pardon recipients had purchased Sooper Dooper Level VIP memberships at his clubs. Media outlets marveled at the amazing coincidence.

6. The gentility of our ruling class could not imagine or allow a listing of specific penalties for constitutional abuse.

It was unimaginable that riffraff would steal into the Whitehouse. It would be like setting up to punish one of their own. That's just not the sort of governance they paid their hard-earned money for.

After all, what contortionist works harder to create the threat of inflation* than the investing class? It's so exhaustingly inconvenient. But then, add to that the energy required to maintain the pretense of amicability and tolerance for such as Trump and his dirty scions/minions. It is so difficult to maintain a society in this climate. All while those middle class and poor are no help at all.

* the wealthiest call it "harvest"

I like . It smells like......victory.
