Augusto Pinochet...was leader of the military junta that overthrew the socialist government of Pres. Salvador Allende of Chile on September 11, 1973. Pinochet was head of Chiles military government (197490). During his dictatorial reign tens of thousands of opponents of his regime were tortured.

(10,180 posts)This is what first comes to mind when I think of Kissinger.
A few years ago on one of the FM listener sponsered stations, Marc Cooper had a show. This is when I first started hearing about what Kissinger did in Chile:
"In Chile from 1971 to 1973, Cooper served as the Spanish-English translator for Chilean Socialist president Salvador Allende. Following the military coup of 1973, he fled the country, fearing execution as a participant in the Allende government;[3] some of his American friends were executed by the military, including journalist Charles Horman. In 2002 he testified before a Chilean magistrate in the investigation of Horman's death."
I think Marc Cooper is possibly a malcontent these days (but I'm not sure) and is one of those who doesn't agree with the concept that "The perfect is the enemy of the good."

(55,137 posts)return to. Evil, murderous piece of shit!!!!
I have looked forward for this day for 40 years, and I'm 61. All my life this asshole has been in my mind for our no-justice system. I wish he suffered unimaginable pain and agony for every single second he was breathing. Fuck, he got off too easily. He deserves to suffer like the thousands who suffered and died due to his evil, treacherous mother fucking war criminal.

(15,689 posts)was SCUM and disrupted the world everywhere he went.
Some, like Cambodia, had it much worse than others. But a good deal of the current chaos in the ME is also due to him.
Together with Nixon, he also conspired to spoil Johnson's initiative to end the Vietnam War in 1968.
I will NEVER forgive the two of them for what they did to the USA and the world. Their actions - and the people who worked with them - set the stage for Raygun, Newt Gingrich's crazies, and ultimately, the Worst of the Worst in the effing fg.
Wrt to spoiling the Vietnam Peace Initiative, please see https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2017/08/06/nixon-vietnam-candidate-conspired-with-foreign-power-win-election-215461/
RIP, Anthony Bourdain! If there is truly somewhere in another dimension after death, I doubt that you and Kissinger will meet there.

Another thing to love about Carter.

(5,911 posts)I guess we can fill in the blanks from there. His Dad funded Hitler, he did the Heroin smuggling in the dead solder's body bags, Iran Contra Coke, S&L collapse. His kid did some shady stuff before he became governor, including an unsolved mass murder at a cult he was a part of in Brownsville Texas. 911, the Afghan and Iraq wars, Patriot Act, 2008 housing collapse, and he continued the going even worse than the Reagan tax shifts, that have moved more of the federal tax burden unto lower income Americans.

(2,843 posts).....beings ever) and Kissinger (the exact opposite) I just knew it would be good. His perspective as one of the great humanists of our age just put Dr. K right in his wheelhouse (if you'll excuse a baseball analogy) and Anthony just crucifies him (not baseball).

(2,020 posts)As I remember during the Vietnam War Nixon and Kissinger planned to bomb the river and farming dikes that would result in the deaths of 250,000 people. Saner minds prevailed and it never happened. That was the significance of Jane Fondas picture at the anti-aircraft guns.
