Christian nationalists were a minority of the right 30 years ago. But by holding true to their single issue, abortion, they gained more and more sway as they held the rest of the “old right” hostage. And if the right list elections…it was simply proof of their importance.

This is the same move on the left. Looking to cleave off enough support to effectively hold the left hostage to their demands.

The difference is that over the past 30 years, when the right “lost” because of Christian nationalist zealots, the country got Clinton and Obama so no loss for the country. The Christian nationalists didn’t really pay a price since retribution isn’t in dem’s playbook. Today, when religion splits the left…we get Trump and with Trump we get retribution that will very likely include these folks.

American doesn’t benefit from their game but they got good PR behind them so we’ll see if history repeats itself…this time in our side…to the great detriment of the entire country.
