With George Santos gone and Kevin McCarthy leaving at the end of the year, what will the breakdown of Repubs and Dems be?
Thanks for any feedback

(16,159 posts)There are 434 House members. D - 212
R - 222. Kevin leaves and one other dude going to be a college president. Makes it 212 - 220. 218 is needed to pass anything.

Since Santos and McCarthy are going to be gone by 1/1/24, do you know exactly how many House seats will be Repugs. and how many house seats will be dems.?
Thanks (I'm a little off since I'm down for the night)..

213 Democrats
1 open seat (Santos)
On Jan 3 2024 When the House comes back, McCarthy will be gone making it
220 Republicans
213 Democrats
2 open seats.
The democrats have a chance to pick up seats he Santos seat but not much chance at the McCarthy seat. Additionally, one Democrat from Buffalo NY and one Republican from Ohio are leaving but neither of their seats are expected to change parties, so, when the dust clears, the realistic hope it that there are
221 Republicans
214 Democrats.
