Senate fails to advance Ukraine and Israel aid bill as GOP demands immigration limits

The Senate failed Wednesday to begin debate on President Joe Biden's national security package, with Republicans unifying to filibuster it due to a lack of immigration limits that they have demanded be a condition for winning their support.

The vote was 49-51, with Republicans voting against moving forward with the bill, along with Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., who caucuses with Democrats. Sanders has said he opposes giving aid to Israel unconditionally unless Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s government changes its practice, which he has called “immoral” and “in violation of international law.”

The failed vote leaves U.S. aid to Ukraine and Israel on life support on Capitol Hill, even as Biden makes a dire plea for approving it to stop Russia from conquering Ukraine.

“This cannot wait. ... We cannot let [Russian President Vladimir] Putin win,” Biden said, accusing “extreme” Republicans of “playing chicken” with the package by demanding “partisan” border policies.

“Do they really want a solution?” he asked. “I am willing to make significant compromises on the border.”

They'd be willing to work on one. They have no intent to do their actual jobs.

When they leave office, they should be made to pay back all their wages for refusing to do their jobs... and no retirement perks either, fucking assholes. I want to see 90% of them incarcerated for a time.

because that would negate the issue in an election year. They don’t want to go back to their districts and say “I worked with Joe Biden on a bipartisan border solution” — their Fox-addled constituents would view that as a betrayal. They just want to point at Biden and say, “We could solve this if only the evil Democrats weren’t stopping us! Just get rid of Biden and the border won’t be a problem any more!”

And if it means letting Putin march across Europe, they’ll gladly do it. In fact some of them see that as a bonus.

Yes, that is where they're at and until the blinders are removed, they will stay right where they are comfortable.

They are in the camp of Putin, so much so, that they have no problem pulling the plug on desperately needed funding. Anything to appease their Fuhrer.

So let me get this straight. The Republicans do not want the US to help Ukraine to keep the Russians from crossing their border because they want to help the US to stop asylum seekers from crossing its border. Help the Russians. Stymie the asylum seekers.

With his vote Harris could break the tie.

I'd go the hell off but I'm too disappointed in the moment.

Fool.
