Speaker Mike Johnson was caught on tape comparing himself to Moses and claimed that he is leading the country through a Red Sea moment. Right Wing Watch reported:
When Johnson took to the stage, he thanked the NACL for banning media from the event, claiming that the media loves to pick my comments out of context.
The Lord impressed upon my heart a few weeks before this happened that something was going to occur, Johnson said. And the Lord very specifically told me in my prayers to prepare, but to wait. ... I had this sense that we were going to come to a Red Sea moment in our Republican conference and in the county at large, he continued. [God] had been speaking to me about this, and the Lord told me very clearly to prepare and be ready.
Only a delusional theocrat could believe that he was put into place by God instead of House Republican ineptitude and desperation. If Mike Johnson was chosen by God to be the Speaker of the House, why did God have to run through 4 other choices first? Was Johnson the last potential speaker at the end of the bench for God? Shouldnt God be better at whipping votes and getting her first choice elected?
It is easy to laugh at Johnson, but he is a dangerous theocrat with alarming views on women. Mike Johnson is second in line to the presidency, and that fact is a clear and present danger to the Republic.

Republicans only like women one way:

Of course, it will be even worse for the LGBTQ+ community than for cishet women. I shudder to think what Johnson and his ilk would like to do to them.

People who publicly say they pray and God answers are lying.
Jesus Christians know that Jesus never taught anyone to pray like that.
Barbara Taylor Brown, an Episcopal priest, academic, and author once said,
" Jesus wasn't killed by atheists or anarchy. He was brought down by law and order allied with religion, which is always a deadly mix.
Beware those who claim to know the mind of God and who are prepared to use force, if necessary, to make others conform. Beware those who cannot tell God's will from their own."

(3,363 posts)I am having problems using the term "Christian", because it has been commandeered by people who act the complete opposite of Christ. I'm just as baffled as you all are about why T**** is so LOVED by people who proclaim faith in Christ. (The book Jesus and John Wayne by Kristin Du Mez did help explain a lot of it, though.)
Praise be to God that my pastors keep their own personal politics out of the pulpit...though I DID clash with them over Issue 1. To their credit, they listened when I told both of them why I would be voting yes. I listened to them when they said why they were voting no. We basically had to agree to disagree on that one.

But when you start thinking God is talking to you personally and telling you things you should be doing or - worse - that you have a special mission, that's where it gets crazy. And have you ever noticed that the messages from God tend to correspond with the things the recipient wants to do anyhow?

Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they cant and wont compromise. I know, Ive tried to deal with them. November, 1994, quoted by John Dean in his book, Conservatives Without Conscience.

They conveniently do not believe that when bad things happen to them it is also a message from God. Bad things happening to OTHER people is a message from God but bad things happening to them is not. It is the intersection of cognitive bias (same as the people anti-abortion people who get abortions - THEIR abortion is DIFFERENT - also same as people who try to make a distinction between the "deserving poor" and the "undeserving poor"
combined with the use of religion as a crutch. It is a common characteristic of conservative religious people which liberal religious people seem to be able to avoid.

(7,604 posts)Mike is a hard-core delusional clown. His delusional thinking is GLOBAL in nature. Everything that happens to him is at the direction of a God whom he thinks is speaking directly to him. In reality, "God" has never worked this way, and the only people who believe otherwise are or were equally delusional. Anyone who is in this "club" cannot fathom the fact that their "God" is decidedly "hands-off" when it comes to human endeavors. You sink or swim on your own, Mikey. It doesn't make a difference what you believe. You are the agent of your own actions.

Talking to God is ok I guess, but when he talks back to you, ummm, no, that is one bridge too far for most of us.
I don't have God's cell number but I have his email, and I've emailed him.
Basically, is this bloke telling the truth or is he just talking cow manure?
Let you know when I get a reply.
I might have to wait for an answer though, God is kind of busy with the Middle East and Ukraine - watching, but not interfering.
EDIT: I apologise to any religious people who find the above frivolity offensive.
But Mike claiming he is directly in communication with the Deity and hence has a powerful backer, is an old shyster trick that basically challenges you to prove he is wrong.
Impossible to prove - either way.
My response to anyone who claims to be acting on orders from God, is to ask to see those orders in writing.
In God's handwriting.
