@steve_vladeck
Those defending ambiguous medical exceptions in abortion bans regularly suggest that the problem is not the ambiguities, but doctors narrowly construing them.
And yet, heres Texas AG Ken Paxton threatening doctors with civil and criminal liability for FOLLOWING A COURT ORDER.
Its almost like doctors are genuinelyand reasonablyworried about civil and criminal liability for good faith exercises of their best medical judgment that might end up falling on the wrong side of the ambiguous lines that these state abortion bans draw

(82,849 posts)In Texas, legislators and public officials are the final health care decision-makers for women. Trained medical professionals need not concern themselves with best practices, standard of care, or necessary treatment. And women sure as hell aren't to be trusted with such decision.
There really isn't a discussion about this anymore, is there? One party trusts people to make their own choices; the other plainly does not. Fancy-pants doctors and their so-called "education" (which probably involves using books whose contents would cause Miss McGillicuddy to faint right in front of the Antioch Baptist Children's Sunday School) clearly don't take sufficient account of the possibility that God will miracle that baby right out of danger.

(10,701 posts)where they belong. It should never be up to a politician or a judge but up to the woman and her doctor. If the doctor doesn't believe in it then refer her on to another who will perform the abortion. No bloody restraints or ambiguity about anyone's health or medical decisions.

I suspect that no guillotines will be built in the State of Texas.
I also suspect this kind of abuse of power will turn Texas very blue very quickly.
