Malinowski interested in U.S. Senate race (NJ)

Former Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes) is exploring a U.S. Senate bid, the New Jersey Globe has confirmed.

The former two-term congressman has called several municipal chairs in his congressional district to gauge support if he decided to enter the Democratic primary.

Malinowski had been considered a potential primary challenger to incumbent Bob Menendez before the three-term senator was indicted, but did not pull the trigger. Instead, Rep. Andy Kim (D-Moorestown) beat him to the punch and announced his candidacy one day after the Justice Department unsealed bribery and conspiracy charges against Menendez.

While simply exploring his options at this point, Malinowski could become the fifth candidate in a race that now includes Kim, First Lady Tammy Murphy, former Newark school board member Lawrence Hamm – and maybe Menendez, who has not said if he will seek re-election.
