Most of us Democrats care about the world we live in. We want to see an end to wars, an end to hunger, an end to greed, an end to bigotry and hatred, an end to human misery. We're far from perfect, but at a bare minimum, we care about the overall well being of humanity.
Many (most?) Republicans don't seem to think or care about any of this. They want to "own the Dems," they want an insane Orange Jesus as their president, they want all the "THEMS" thrown and kept out of the country, they declare themselves "patriots" while trying to destroy the very meaning of the word, and they want white "Christians" in charge of everything.
I realize these are broad generalities, nonetheless, these are some of the major differences between Democrats and Republicans. And given this, I have no idea why Joe Biden is trailing Trump in what seems to be public opinion. In 2016, we all "Knew for a fact that Hillary was going to win." This time around, many seem certain that "Dear Leader" will reclaim his rightful place in the White House. Let's hope that "the many" are as wrong as we were in 2016.
And one more thought. How in the world did The Republican Party turn into "The American Fascist Party?" -- I guess it happened while we were off in some fantasy land thinking of how to make the world a better place.

(153,202 posts)to be a repuke you have to think you're better than, you know, THOSE people - which is pretty much everyone who doesn't look or think ore behave like them - and then when you routinely judge people it makes it easier to treat them as less than human

Psychologists have long suspected that a few fundamental differences in worldviews might underlie the conservative-liberal rift. Forty years of research has shown that, on average, conservatives see the world as a more dangerous place than liberals do. This one belief seemed to help explain many American conservative stances in policy disagreements, such as support of gun ownership, border enforcement, and increased spending on police and the militaryall of which, one can argue, are meant to protect people from a threatening world.
But new research by psychologist Nick Kerry and me at the University of Pennsylvania contradicts that long-standing theory. We find instead that the main difference between the left and the right is whether people believe the world is inherently hierarchical. Conservatives, our work shows, tend to believe more strongly than liberals in a hierarchical world, which is essentially the view that the universe is a place where the lines between categories or concepts matter. A clearer understanding of that difference could help society better bridge political divides.

(669 posts)....we non-rich citizens are being screwed over by corporate America. Unfortunately Republicans don't look to the real reason: increased consolidation of money and power in fewer corporations determined to take us back to the days of the robber barons. They want to go back to slave wages, no healthcare or workplace safety standards. The only hook they have is distracting the public with book bans, LGBTQ harassment and migrant bashing. They have no plans to help anybody.
