AZ: Maricopa county attorney pushes back on abortion executive order from Hobbs

The future of abortion access in Arizona is now in the hands of the state’s Supreme Court.

Regardless of the outcome, Gov. Katie Hobbs has consolidated prosecutorial power to only Arizona Attorney General Kris Mayes.

But Maricopa County Attorney Rachel Mitchell, a Republican, says Hobbs has no such authority.

“If a case comes to my office, I will look at it like I look at every other case. I’m going to look at it to see if, obviously first of all, if there’s a violation of the law, and secondly if there’s a reasonable likelihood of conviction," Michell said.

She says her office is looking out for the court's decision on whether abortions will be allowed up to 15 weeks into pregnancy or banned almost entirely.
