Why does the mainstream media continue to cozy up to MAGA extremists?

https://heartlandsignal.com/2023/12/15/opinion-why-does-the-mainstream-media-continue-to-cozy-up-to-maga-extremists/

The so-called liberal media establishment sure likes to cozy up to right-wing extremists.

Just this week, CNN gave one full hour of its most valuable prime-time slots to noted liar and conspiracy theorist Vivek Ramaswamy. Their justification? Ramaswamy “is a significant candidate for the GOP nomination, having made every debate stage thus far…”

Really? He’s a failing presidential contender eking out a miniscule 5% or less in the polls, fully 45 to 50 points behind the likely GOP nominee, Donald Trump.

Even the network’s own senior media critic called out the misstep. Oliver Darcy wrote:

“…the question is: Why would any major news network help to validate such a preposterous figure by putting him on stage and allowing him to infect the public with his conspiracy campaign?”

It is a very good question. Ramaswamy’s entire hapless run for office has been a race to the bottom, filled with vile lies and disinformation. His greatest hits include the false claim that Jan. 6 was an inside job. Yet there he was on CNN prime time with one of CNN’s marquee journalists, Abby Phillip, for an entire hour.

Presidential candidates are often given a platform on media outlets. This really shouldn't be a surprise to anyone, because that's the way it's worked for decades. Vivek What's-his-namy has indeed qualified for all of the debates, and I don't think using that as a criterion is unreasonable.

By the logic in the OP, only Trump should be given media attention because he's demolishing the field. Is that really how it should work?

For the record, I'd prefer that Vivek be laughed off the stage, but that's unlikely to happen. I wish the same of Trump.

If I don't shut them off. I won't listen to sounds bites of traitor, or his henchmen and lately, I've shut off the live stream if the host and guests start blathering about rwnj candidates, strategy and other things that are already getting extensive airtime from other hosts on other networks. Mostly, I've even stopped opening o.p. on DU if they look like speculation, or link to a report about what one of the slimeballs said or did.

I think even my piece of crap laptop sees what I look at, and I can wish that it also notes when I close a tab, so I hope I am avoiding adding a click to any of the traitors' comments.

Basically, rwnj are rwnj and even if, like Liz Cheney, they did the right thing when traitor betrayed our country, they remain r's, opposing issues like women and minority rights, gun control, minimum wage, and limiting voting rights. I might have to live in the same country with the opposing party, but I don't have to like it. And tG, I don't have to watch our media cozy up to their abusers.
