(4,263 posts)Hope we can agree on that much at least.
Oddly enough, the civilians are not ducking after the "gunfire" sounds. But maybe it's just because by now they are so used to being shot at.
I am still looking for the part where "Hamas violently seize a humanitarian aid convoy".
Perhaps COGAT can find another video with that part included.
I hope the guy at the end of the video is OK.

(4,263 posts)I don't see any proof here that the "trucks were stopped with gunfire".
I see men on top of trucks that are obviously not the mammoth, modern, fully loaded UN aid trucks we can see lined up at Rafah. Yes, they have guns. It is a war zone after all. I don't see the distinctive Hamas uniforms on the men. I hear what may be a short burst of gunfire but I don't see the civilians ducking or reacting. I see a man lying on the ground with no blood anywhere.
This video does not constitute proof to me of the claim by COGAT. However...
I don't doubt Hamas is stealing aid. They have to eat too and they are not likely to be lining up at aid centres under surveillance by Israel. Is it wrong? Yes. There's a lot of wrong things happening in this war. Even civilians are resorting to theft now from starvation.
The issue I have is that this kind of focus on Hamas' theft serves to obscure and deflect from the much bigger issue of Israel's use of starvation of civilians as a tool of war.

(13,283 posts)And "gunfire" in quotation mark does not imply there was no real gunfire. And this is not a wounded (or dead) man at the end of the video, apparently unarmed, who was not hit by real gunfire. And the mysterious trucks full of supplies that just happened to be driving around Gaza without going through a UN checkpoint at Rafah are not UN trucks. Or maybe this is not Gaza, and the whole thing was staged by Mossad in Hollywood.
Perhaps you can find a source that disputes what COGAT is showing on video for all to see.

(4,263 posts)As I said below, no doubt Hamas are stealing but so are the civilians at this point.
I'm not disputing the video is real. I am disputing that it depicts what is being claimed. Like all "good" propaganda, it also may have been edited to support the narrative it wants to convey. Not a shocker that all sides engage in propaganda in war, and the thing about it is works on our confirmation bias.
What I dislike about this is that it brings the focus and outrage to the wrong issue. It serves not only to deflect responsibility for the starvation in Gaza that has been systematically inflicted and even stated outright since the beginning, but also to salve people's consciences so they can just throw their hands up in the air and say "evil Hamas, it's all their fault, nothing we can do". But there IS something we can do, which is demand Israel agree to a humanitarian ceasefire to stop the starvation.
If anyone doubts what is really going on now, this report paints a very bleak picture. People are stopping aid trucks and helping themselves directly from the food trucks and eating it on the spot. They are "desparate, hungry and terrified". This has nothing to do with Hamas stealing food, this is a created catastrophe.

(13,283 posts)I see armed people hijacking a truck convoy and shooting at bystanders. What I don't see is how these trucks appeared in Gaza without being allowed to pass through the Rafah crossing and cleared by multiple parties which include UN to enter Gaza. I don't see any evidence that the video was edited, other than a single cut from the armed people on top of the trucks shooting at bystanders to a close up of a man lying motionless on the ground.
You are not disputing Hamas is stealing supplies from civilians. You are not disputing that the video is real. You are not disputing that it shows armed hijackers on top of trucks. Presumably, you are not disputing that the truck convoy must have been permitted to cross the border into Gaza. You are not disputing that hijackers intend to keep Gaza civilians away from the trucks.
So what do you see that I don't see? Can you see in which ways the video may have been edited? The only thing you can dispute is that the armed hijackers don't call themselves Hamas. They may call themselves Islamic Jihad. Or Fatah Al Islam. Or PLF. And whatever they may call themselves, they are still armed hijackers stealing a truck convoy intended for Gaza civilians and firing at bystanders.
And making this known deflects from... what exactly? Blaming Israel for not allowing trucks full of supplies to reach Gaza civilians? Or the inane demands that israel agree to a humanitarian cease fire when Hamas (or islamic Jihad, or whoever) have no intention to abide by the terms of any cease fire or stop stealing the supplies intended to end starvation?
Good luck to you and whatever you want to see.

(4,263 posts)You can spin it any which way, you will still come down on the wrong side of morality and history.
The intentional starvation of millions of people is barbaric and inhumane.
You can go on deflecting and providing cover for it until you twist yourself up into a pretzel, you will still be on the wrong side.

(13,283 posts)Contrast what you posted with the post you are replying to. Is there anything you see there that is illogical or deflective?
Not what you want to see, but what you actually see, absent of any speculation and innuendo.
To demonstrate your credibility, you might want to get a bit more specific than you have so far.
