According to Giulianis Wikipedia page, his father was not a very nice person. Harold Giuliani could not hold down a job for very long. He did some time in Sing Sing for felony battery and robbery. Once he was released from prison, he went to work as a strongman for a local loan shark crime syndicate member.
Well, for all the time that Rudy has said that he fought against crime families, his own father was a part of those very same people!
Just thought that was interesting, especially considering how Rudys behavior has become the past several years?

(55,334 posts)Giuliani going against the mob in his salad days is a pretty inspirational story. It only makes the tragedy of his descent into lackey to a criminal conspiracy against his own country so much more pathetic.
Somewhere along the line, he became so needful of the accolades of power and public, he allowed it to shape his character into something petty, greedy, and bitter. It's Shakespearean and a lot of the same ways that LBJ's story is. Someone who once did so much good ends up doing so much harm that it causes his downfall.
Of course there's also that classic line from the Roseanne show: "The statute of limitations on shitty parenting runs out at about 30"

(55,334 posts)Although some of Trump's connections financially to Russian mobsters have been going on for years through banks in Cyprus and Deutsche Bank. But those were probly more financial than political conduits.
It's a mess. I have to wonder why God even chose Trump to fulfill His plan and bring on the End Times.... #mysteriousways indeed...

(43,165 posts)I have had conversations over the past few days with people who had to deal with him at City Hall. According to them, even in his glory days of being mayor, he was a prick. He screwed over the EMS workers on their pension when they had to join the firefighters union.
He screwed over the teachers, too, but I cant remember how.

Rudy grew up in Brooklyn but refused to root for The Dodgers. He was enamored with the Yankees (Bronx).
Not only did that make him a local contrarian, it made for regular schoolyard and neighborhood fights as a boy.
When mayor, it was an open secret that Rudy was cheating on his wife, Donna Hanover, with Cristyne Lategano-Nicholas, an aide for six years in the Nineties. (Hanover even referred to her by implication.) Judith Nathan was on the scene by 9/11.
And Rudy got a lot of ink in local NYC papers for kicking out Yasser Arafat from Lincoln Center for a concert to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the United Nations in 1995.

(4,964 posts)Back in the late 1970s, I enjoyed watching "Evening Magazine" on Pittsburgh's KDKA. The 30-minute program ran Monday-Friday in the 7:00 PM time slot. The co-hosts were Donna Hanover and Dave Durian. After Ms. Hanover left for NYC, Liz Miles took over her spot on the show. That was the era after the FCC cut the evening prime-time programing hours to three, and stations were encouraged to fill their early evening time slots with locally produced shows

When Ed Koch was Mayor, he would have celebrations on City Hall steps. I still remember fondly the day he gave Keys to the City to Dolly Parton and she bowled him over by doing an impromptu set on the steps.
Those were the days.
Don't even think about the armed camp Rudy set up there.
Some other time I'll mention Rudy's war on ferrets.
