Dixie Chicks founding member Laura Lynch dies in head-on Texas car crash

https://www.msn.com/en-us/entertainment/news/dixie-chicks-founding-member-laura-lynch-dies-in-head-on-texas-car-crash/ar-AA1lXgKp?

Laura Lynch, a founding member of the Dixie Chicks band, has died in a Texas car crash, officials confirmed.

Lynch, 65, was killed instantly in a head-on collision Friday by an oncoming car attempting to pass another on an undivided highway near El Paso, Sgt. Eliot Torres of the Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed to USA TODAY. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

In a statement posted to Instagram, the band, now known as The Chicks, remembered Lynch.

"We are shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Laura Lynch, a founding member of The Chicks. We hold a special place in our hearts for the time we spent playing music, laughing and traveling together," the band wrote. "Laura was a bright light…her infectious energy and humor gave a spark to the early days of our band. Laura had a gift for design, a love of all things Texas and was instrumental in the early success of the band. Her undeniable talents helped propel us beyond busking on street corners to stages all across Texas and the Midwest."

Much, much too soon for Laura to go. Condolences to her family and all who loved her.

This one has stuck with me… what fun, what sass.

That Earl guy didn’t work out, though, and I still love the song. I remember once talking to some guy took the song personally (really, pal?) — but in fact I once had a roommate who showed me a nice photo of her ex and told me that if he ever showed up on the front porch I was to call the cops asap. Then she told me the brief but ugly and eventful story of her marriage to him, starting with the honeymoon where he yanked her by her hair and told her she was now his slave, and culminating with the time he put her in Intensive Care for two weeks. She was fairly sure he didn’t know where she was, but…

I'm not too familiar with the band but I just read a couple articles, and looked for a definitively captioned photo (couldn't find one), and as I say, it seems she left the band some years ago.

I began looking because one article I read she was quoted as saying she loved George W Bush and disapproved of any criticism of a President. A far cry from what I remember of the controversy when Natalie said the band was ashamed of Bush for what he did in Iraq and none of the other members contradicted her.

I read a book about the Chicks a while back, and the way it described the switch from Lynch to Maines reminded me of how the Beatles replaced Pete Best with Ringo Starr just as they were on the threshold of fame and fortune. It was quite a a story.

According to the book, Lynch was a pretty good sport about the whole thing, which says a lot about her as a person, imo. I think she may have sensed that Emily and Martie were hankering to take the band in a different direction and was surprised but not exactly shocked when it happened.

Natalie Maines is such an amazing singer that I can't really blame E. and M. for wanting to perform with her.
