StarTribune: Ian Punnett, former MyTalk radio host, dead at 63

Ya' gotta love this guy. He was one of the liberals on r-w C2C radio show, a professor, and a dog lover. In fact, he wrote two books about dogs and donated the funds to canine causes.

The broadcaster was inducted into the Kansas Association of Broadcasters Hall of Fame last month.

Ian Punnett, the witty broadcaster who helped launch MyTalk radio in the Twin Cities, has died at the age of 63.

According to Coast to Coast AM, where Punnett had various hosting duties for more than two decades, he passed away Thursday after a brief illness.

"The Ian and Margery Show," which he hosted with his wife, Margery Punnett, was the morning show at KTMY (107.1 FM) from 2002 to 2012. He left the station to deal with tinnitus.

But that struggle didn't slow him down. In addition to continuing to do shows for Coast to Coast, he wrote two children's books.... In 2017, he received his doctorate at Arizona State University, where he became friends with former Star Tribune editor Tim McGuire.

Obituary at StarTribune

There are quite a few videos of Ian at youtube if you want to explore more. They repeat what the above story says, so I'm not posting the links, but there are samples of his work there, too.

Prol'ly hangin' with Art Bell about now.

Without a doubt, he was the most intelligent of the hosts at C2C.

Ian Punnett was my favorite C2Cam host aside from Art Bell himself. It's sad to lose him right before Christmas. Now the show will be truly unlistenable.

RIP Ian

died Thursday after battling a genetic non-alcohol-related liver disorder.

When doctors questioned him on if he would make a good candidate for the transplant list, he told them about his history, and he believed it’s why he would get on the list — which he eventually did one day before his death. He told the class his focus on this “one thing” would probably save his life.
