Covered in blood is a doll meant to symbolize Jesus, whom the vandals describe as a Palestinian child messiah.
The escalation in intimidation and incitement against Members of Congress feels like it is heading in a dangerous direction.
I, for one, will not be intimidated.

(21,075 posts)The ahistorical myth that Jesus was a Palestinian is often rooted in nationalist propaganda designed to erase Jewish history and memory, a centuries-old system of anti-Jewish oppression.

(15,549 posts)Jesus came upon the scene. Painting him as anything other than Jewish - is either flummery, or rank ignorance, depending on how charitable one feels toward the purveyor.

Bunch of effing losers.

As an ironic twist, the faith of the majority of Palestinians is Islam which does not consider Jesus a Messiah. He is a prophet according to the Quran.

Drawing parallels between Jesus persecutors and present-day Israel, Ocasio-Cortez wrote in an Instagram story on Sunday that Jesus was born in modern-day Palestine
Pretty sure he was born in Roman Judea.

(7,288 posts)Were one inclined to identify the area based upon the Tanakh, this is the land that God promised Abraham permanently for the Israelites. Apparently this covenant is inconvenient for the other Abrahamic religions.
Whatever. Considering the religious and ethnic makeup of Israel, it's really never been an issue for Jews. Similarly, the historic or mythical Jesus was just a MOT. If Christians and/or Muslims want to fetishize him, that's on them.

(16,385 posts)Of course Judaism hasnt caused the harm that extremist Islam and Christianity have caused. But its all mythological bullshit. The polytheistic religions are bullshit too.

(7,288 posts)But at least there's a written mythology that oughtta, at the least, trump stupid semantics: "It's Judea!" "It's Palestine!"
Nope. It's Israel.

(76,982 posts)To protest in support of Palestinians, they trashed the office of a gay, black guy with a Hispanic surname.
Oh, and his whole career has been focused on the underprivileged citizens.
He must be one of the bad guys.

(76,982 posts)We have posters right here in GD that insist that these actions call attention to the cause.
But, 95% of the conversation ends up being about the protest, not the cause.
And in this case Torres' "...will not be intimidated..." statement makes it obvious they haven't won HIM to their cause.
Protesting by picketing, protesting outside an event, ... I got it.
But, when the protest becomes the news the point is lost.
Geez, even the antiwar protests in the 60s, as plentiful as they were, didn't shorten that war. One reason, IMO, is that run amok protests shifted public opinion AWAY from their cause.
Good protests may cause inconvenience. If that's ALL they do, they're for naught.

(96,043 posts)Attempts to appeal to history based on Bible texts are doomed to failure at best.
There was no 'massacre of the innocents': it is a completely made up story. There was no campaign to kill all newborn males in Judea undertaken by a client king of Rome. There would be a record.
Judea groaned under no more than the usual oppressions of life under Roman rule, and they really wanted little of people besides paying their taxes and not gathering in groups greater than three without a license. In Judea they had even reached some accommodation with the Temple priesthood, by which the High Priest once a year in the Holy of Holies beseeching G-d's blessing on the Emperor and Rome, relieved any Jew of need to make any ritual obeisance to the Imperial cult.
