Haley is a formidable politician. She'll probably end up with the support of the Christie/Cheney/Kinsinger factions of the party, which is really the only path to saving the Republican Party from becoming the anti-republicanism party

(55,334 posts)I don't know if you figured this out, but it doesn't do anything to help the Democratic cause when Democrats act like they can out-hate Republicans.
Stop saying things that a bigot would say. Bigotry is not a special privilege that we should be jealous of Republicans enjoying; it's self harming as much as it hurts targeted outgroups.

(55,334 posts)... except for the in part where we won the 2018 elections, took back the White House in 2020 by seven million votes, held on to the Senate in 2022 and kept the supposed "red tsunami" down to an impotent five vote majority.
So, yes, standing up for democracy seems to be working out okay

(37,535 posts)Remember, there was no "Beau Biden"--his (first) given name was "Joseph", and his middle name was, as the case with his father "Joseph", "Robinette" (he had a "III" as a result after his name, 3 generations of "Joseph Robinette Biden"
. "Beau" is pure nickname.
I guess we have to exclaim, "Oh, noes! Utterly falsified and fabricated! Oh, the lies! The cover up! The fraud!" But, no, nicknames are fine in American society. Have been for many a century.
And "Hunter Biden" has the (first) given name "Robert". "Hunter" is his middle name.
Oooh ... The falsity. I guess he wanted to make himself seem like an aggressor, a "hunter". "Nikki" is less "anglicizing" her name by using her middle given legal name than "Beau" was trying to seem more Cajun by gallicizing his name or than Hunter wants to seem like a gun-toting NRAer by presenting himself as a "hunter".
But, no, that kind of thing has also been going on for many a century.
Having a principle that people get to use their given names or a hypocoristic should be applied equally. You're a person, each of the Bidens is a person, my dad was a person (he used his middle name when young), "Nikki" is a person, I'm a person. Condemn "Nikki" and you condemn "Joe," "Beau," and "Hunter" and by extension my dad.

(7,604 posts)Loose Goose for all I care. She can even accent the "e"s. But she's sly as well. Have you noticed how much air time she earned by not mentioning slavery? This may come to something... like... the less she says, the greater the audience? Extend that to the extreme, and we've got something to work with: gain the greatest audience by saying NOTHING. There's Nikki's pathway to success.

That is like saying if Joseph Robinette Biden wanted to be authentic, he wouldn't allow himself to be called "Joe".

I began using my middle name when I went to school because when I was in day care, no one could pronounce my first name correctly. I am certainly not ashamed of my heritage.
Now, the fact that she will not clearly say that the Civil War was about Slavery and that it is a dark stain on American history that we need to continue to address, that is moral cowardice. She is a moral coward and she should be ashamed of that.

Despite his name (and color) he was one of the better U.S. Presidents in my baby boomer lifetime.
Nikki Haley (or Nimrata Nikki Randhawa) is simply another MAGAt trying to destroy our American Democracy from within. Her name or ethnicity doesn't really matter IMHO.

(35,075 posts)She's a phony.
Barack Hussein Obama ran with his full real and correct name and won the presidency twice.
Even Vivek, as obnoxious and off putting as he is, is also running under his real name.
Nikki, on the other hand appears to be self-hating and running away from her culture and identity. She won't even embrace her own opinions. She tells a room full of people, tell me what you want me to say and I'll say it. That is completely unacceptable. Voters don't like that. They want someone who is real, authentic and proud of who they are.

After seeing the comments, I looked it up. Nikki Haley's given name - per Wikipedia - is spelled "Nimarata" - not the spelling in the OP.

(93,617 posts)similar to how they will refer to a name like Meenakshi as miki .
But there are girls that are only named Niki also. It's like Priti, Tulsi, Neeti etc. They just have those type of names.
So I don't think this is similar to "Bobby" Jindal.
