Does Nikki pick up support from the base or lose more "reasonable Republicans" in the bargain. We know that Trump surges every time the media gives him a public flogging. At the same time, his utterances are becoming increasingly incontinent. Republicans seem to be cheering him on because he's "their guy" but that doesn't mean that they don't have a wandering eye.

On the subject of slavery, I guess Nikki didn't think to consult Ron DeSantis.

5. The question the media should be asking

Why does it being a "Democratic plant" make the answer any different?

Nikki knows how the wind blows.

The Confederate flag was A-OK with her and still is. After the murder of 9 African Americans, in a church she had a choice.

Gun laws or have the flag taken down. She chose the option that was best for her politically.

6. It was also instructive that her answer was a word salad.

The criticism was for what she didn't say and what she did say was ignored. What she did say was vague and mostly irrelevant. In the post-Bush and post-Trump years, gravitas and competence are not prerequisites for a Republican presidential campaign.

The Civil War was about slavery.

And Americans have the right to their freedoms. And that means the freedom to own other humans. They are your property. They cannot leave you. They have to obey you. You have the right to buy and sell them at will. You have the right to sell their parents, their sisters, their aunts and uncles, their children, their spouses. You have the right to rape their women and then sell your children. You have the right to punish them if they learn to read and write. You have the right to murder them without fear of due process.

Yeah, Nikki. We can't have government interfering with THOSE "freedoms".

I'm wondering if Nikki will ever get around to taking on the Big Lie. I'm betting against. In her original Civil War response she gave a shout out to capitalism while ignoring slavery. As a "reasonable Republican" this is her only non-negotiable value. The people who fund her require it.
