(60,320 posts)Apparently it was acquired and has a head office in Montreal, Canada.
A PO box is used to hide the actual recipient.
They are phishing for account info. Do not respond.
On the other hand ... does the letter direct you to a Cyberscout web site? Does it give a toll-free phone number that you can check online? What is the letter asking for? Offering free credit info? What personal info are you supposed to give them in your response?

(60,320 posts)So it could be legit. Still, be cautious.
Best to self-delete your post #10 because it has the code and anybody could use it.

(26,602 posts)Sontiq acquired Cyberscout, and TransUnion acquired Sontiq.
Mr. Cooper is a mortgage agency.

So, the breach may be legitimate, though scammers may or may not be using the info. I wouldnt personally trust Cyberscout. It seems to get crap ratings.

Best to check your accounts (credit, bank, etc), and from the article:
You should start by hitting all three credit bureaus, which are TransUnion, Equifax and Experian.
Cant offer more than this.
Good luck.
Companies are getting hacked all the time.

Was your husband doing any online investment, perhaps even with that group?
There is a "mrcooperincident.com" site that gives me a blank screen when I visit. That may be because I block cookies and trackers by default.
I'm seeing a bunch of letters online using that PO box in Dearborn, but nobody seems to be calling them out as a scam.

(2,406 posts)Weve all been compromised online, your info is out there. If it wasnt my job that did it it was experian themselves. Then they all offer to pay the first year of life lock type services, but youre on the hook for every $ after that first year. They want you streaming your security now.
Depending on your exposure online, you may or may not want to get a security monitoring service, or you could run all the updates on your security software, change all your passwords and hunker down. Neither fun, but whatever you do when someone sends you an email like that never respond with any personal data, navigate to an official website and start from there.

(20,028 posts)I think I remember something from a while back stating that millions were affected.
I got notified by the Treasury Dept that someone tried to use my social security number on a job application. They are .monitoring my account.
So far all my stuff seems to be ok.

(9,153 posts)all 3 credit bureaus locked and only unlock when you are applying for a loan etc. and you know which bureau they are going to use so you don't unlock the others. Avoid on-line money dealings as much as possible.

(61,033 posts)I got the same letter, twice, just recently by regular mail. I opened them to see maybe they owed me some escrow money of something.
No such luck. They were advising me that my mortgage had been sold and there was a data breach with the new company and my personal info like passwords etc. may have been obtained by who knows who.
There's a toll-free number to call but I've had several passwords, credit card numbers, debit card numbers since Mr. Cooper was my mortgage company so I trashed the letters.
The phishers are good, but not that good. I've been phished by better phishers than them.
