I have seen this seen this show before but now it starred Dr. Gay instead of Al Franken.

I don’t know all the particulars but President Gay’s forced departure smells of a
right wing “hit job” who see the out come as a victory for their side. One which
was “won” by their use of money, media footprint, and lying to targeted groups
of Americans.

I might be wrong but I don’t think so.

We need to start fighting this. Academic freedom is under fire, and the dark side is winning. New College is destroyed and Youngstown is going down. Women in leadership positions are being forced out. This is just the beginning.

And keep the minority’s control over the majority by this and a # of different ways this being
an attack on free speech and academic freedoms. “They” have been playing this game for
> 70 years. See Joe McCarthy, civil rights, marijuana laws, WW ll (prior), Vietnam, climate
change, Trump’s big lie(s), gerrymandering, and court packing.

I don’t have all the answers but voter turn out and education is one of them and both Barbie
and T-Swizzle (T swift) are good signs.

their own best interests. Racism and anti intellectualism runs strong in some and only
death will still their brains thinking.

By failing to answer the easiest question one could pose to her correctly. That just opened up the can of worms that brought about her eventual downfall.

No money, media or lying was needed, her testimony was public. This was very easily avoided and she ended up letting a dunce like Stefanik beat her.

This was a classic self-own.

I agree with you that the Republicans are hypocrites who stop at nothing to harass Democrats. And we misstep sometimes.

I think this is a little different situation than Franken being forced out for doing basically nothing wrong.

The Republicans are taking credit for the resignations of two private university presidents, but the decision to force out a private university president is up to that institution's board. The Republicans can't make them resign or make the boards ask for resignations. There had to be more pressure, from within.

The job of university president has become almost impossible, given the conflicting currents of our culture. The culture war is being fought on college campuses and it's not clear to me that ANY person could please every faction.

I will say that it's been Republicans who squawk and squeal about "freedom of speech" so I hope this backfires on them. Every day on college campuses there's some right wing speaker spewing vile racist, bigoted things and Elise Stefanik and her ilk are always defending their first amendment rights. Now the Republicans are on record deploring hate speech. What about Trump's speeches? Or is that "context dependent" too?

7. SHE JUST HAD TO CONDEMN A CALL FOR GENOCIDE

When asked about students calling for the genocide of Jews, instead of condemning what is really a call for murder, she claimed it would "depend on the context." No, there is no "context" for calling for genocide. She tried to take the middle of the road on something where there is no middle of the road. Calling for murder is always wrong.

She wasn't asked whether it was wrong. She was asked whether the conduct violated a specific section of the student code of conduct.

The answer to the former question is yes. The answer to the latter is that it depends.

It is similar to the question of whether Trump raped Carroll. The jury was obligated to say no, because his actions did not line up with the elements of the crime (per the judge's instructions). But even the judge later acknowledged that by common understanding of rape, the actions the finder of fact attributed to Trump constituted rape.

Under oath, when asked a code-based question, without the benefit of fact-finding, the answer is it depends (unless you believe she should have perjured herself for the sake of creating a better sound bite.
