The MAAGA assholes in the House GOP do not want a border deal. These assholes want to be able to campaign on this issue. These assholes do not care if we hurt Ukraine, Israel or the US economy so long as they can claim some political points.

But a growing number of House Republicans are issuing a blunt warning: A Senate compromise stands virtually no chance of passing their chamber.
The warning underscores the grim prospects of seeing a narrowly divided Congress come together on a hot-button issue like immigration, which Republicans in particular have made central to their campaigns for the White House and control of both chambers.....
Let me tell you, Im not willing to do too damn much right now to help a Democrat and to help Joe Bidens approval rating, Rep. Troy Nehls, a Texas Republican, told CNN. I will not help the Democrats try to improve this mans dismal approval ratings. Im not going to do it. Why would I? Chuck Schumer has had HR 2 on his desk since July. And he did nothing with it.
If House Speaker Maga Mike lets this bill be voted on, it will pass with Democratic votes and Maga Mike will face a motion to vacate
Im glad Speaker Johnson has to date maintained an HR2 or bust posture, said Rep. Matt Gaetz, a Florida Republican who led the charge to oust former Rep. Kevin McCarthy from the speakership.

(23,740 posts)I hopeful a reasonable deal will commence.
The continued dysfunction of the GQP is unsustainable.
The sane citizens of the USA are watching.

(43,265 posts)wouldn't have tied Ukraine war funding to our border crisis. Why would they attach something that could kill any chance of passing Congress? They have been using that southern border as a wedge issue to blame the democratic party for 50 years. It's time for us to get loud and blame the Republican party for not doing anything except pointing their fingers.

(236 posts)They campaigned for last 4 decades on overturning Roe and when they finally got it, proceeded to lose many elections where safe abortion is an issue.
They are not about to incrementally solve the border/immigration problem even on the margins and potentially give away another animating issue to run on in an election year.

This isn't news.

This is straight up the worst House in American history and it was created by Fox News. Fuck Fox and fuck Mike Johnson. Our country is currently being held hostage by Rupert Murdoch.
