...but there were times that I was shunned by other so-called "liberals" who mocked and basically spit on what being a liberal meant to me. They were buying into the neo-liberal way during the Reagan era to today. You have no idea how many so-called "liberals" mock me when I say I am an FDR liberal, a real Democrat who stands for the least among us, believes in just and fair policies, supports parents raising the next generation, supports a living wage, and the rights for all to search out the place where they belong in this country.

For instance, I used to belong to Acorn, whose mission was to registered voters before that bow tied ignorant *uck-her killed it with his lies. Because hey, we can't have people of color, low income parents and their families, actually benefit from the laws this Constitution and USC for those of us believe that all people are equal. Why that might edge out the white man, because it is not spoken about, but they are quickly becoming a minority since they are in the process of killing off minority and feminine voices in every way they can.

Furthermore, hate to say it, but there was not much of an outcry by so-called "liberals." when Acorn went down the toilet or for the taking down of many of the policies, unions (who basically killed themselves off, take it from me, I was raised by old Wobblys), yes I watched it in the '90s while being sick to my stomach as to what unions did to themselves.

I am sorry to be such a downer but being liberal is a R-E-S-P-O-N-S-I-B-I-L-T-Y not just some slogan to wave around. It is *not* easy being a real liberal. I have been one for over 45 years, like Bernie was shunned, who really IS a liberal. So there are times you have to stand strong and be brave enough to be an FDR liberal, even when times try to tell you not to be, that you are wrong. But that is not hard when you realize you cannot stand by and be silent, being a liberal is about standing for what is good, not just caring for one's own self, to hell with anyone else like conservatives do.

In short instead of running away from the truth about how the few left are true liberals, waving signs only to each other, learn from your history and then change it to respect what courage it takes to be one.

...I just found an Andy Stephenson button when he ran for our Secretary of Washington State. I wish there was someone who I could give it to. I miss him, we used to have some good conversations when we went to caucuses, but now our state does not have caucuses anymore, and outside of our Democratic Party meetings not much to hang out and do politically. Our Dem party here is strong and it is humane, but for an old activist for low income people, they do not want to hear from me. However I am also a member of The Poor People's Campaign with Dr Barber and have been waving signs anyways, lol. Hope all is going well for you. It was nice to hear from someone who know2s who I am on this now giant forum. Do you know I remember when DU was just a forum on the Bulletin Boards before they had a GUI? Wow. I think that was about 35 years ago!

I'm a 79-yr-old FDR New Deal Democrat who marched in Selma, Montgomery, and Birmingham in the mid-1960's. I'm now retired living in a deep red rural Virginia County that goes 65-35 Republican, and 72-28 Trump. I'm an EMT and former Captain of a volunteer rescue squad, member of a county advisory committee, long-time member of a couple of county boards.

My old F250 has a few decals and stickers. Aside from the VIETNAM VET; U.S. ARMY RANGER; SPECIAL FORCES; and Gay Pride Decal, I also sport:

-- Lock Him Up!! with a cartoon Trump behind bars
-- ENOUGH!! With an AR-15 silhouette crossed out
-- Proud to be a Democrat

I catch a little shit now and then; had a pistol pulled on me one time. Been in this county 17 years, most folks now know me, some dismiss me as a crank, the MAGAts have learned to leave me the fuck alone. During elections, it is common for Democratic candidate yard signs to be stolen from lawns. My Obama signs were stolen one time, I caught the thief on camera; tracked him down and confronted him a couple of days later; my signs since have been untouched. These bastards are cowards.

..... for one more.

When I was on active duty and couldn't get home for Christmas, they contacted the nearest military base, found two airmen who couldn't get home, and invited them for Christmas.

Those two remained friends with my parents until they passed away, but they still keep in touch with my sisters, who are now in their sixties.

I only met them once or twice. They both have to be my age now, in their seventies.
