Eric Trump is denying the new report from Democrats in Congress that his family raked in millions from foreign nations while his father was in office by saying he gave money to the government.
After the House Oversight Committee Democrats released a nearly 200-page report on Thursday about the Trump Organization's profits from foreign countries, the former President Donald Trump's youngest son proclaimed they donated every dime to the U.S. Treasury.
What a joke!" Eric Trump wrote on social media. "All foreign government profits, for stays at our hotels and other properties while my father was in office, were voluntaraly (sic) donated to the United States Treasury."
Thus far, the younger Trump hasn't shown any evidence showing the millions in profits were transferred to the government.

Can you really imagine him paying out ALL the money he got from foreign governments?

The payment "is woefully inadequate," said Noah Bookbinder, executive director of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, a plaintiff in one of the lawsuits.
The payments are calculated on profits from foreign governments at Trump hotels and similar properties, as explained in a pamphlet from the Trump Organization. The calculation does not include other profits for example, on rent paid by the government of China for space at Trump Tower or non-monetary benefits for Trump properties in other countries, or payments or benefits from state governments.
Bookbinder said that even if those problems were solved, the president might be influenced simply by knowing that foreign officials stayed at his properties.

And even with this, note the dependence on 'calculations' of profit prepared by a company already found liable for fraud on a scale of billions. I'm more likely to believe a police officer who says he feared for his life than a Trump Org accountant's figures.

(18,913 posts)It clearly says payment was verified by the Treasury.
I'm not arguing that it was FAIR, I'm simply pointing out that this thread isn't quite accurate.
I thought you'd pick up on that, dear Magistrate.
Moving goal posts isn't winning an argument.
The Magistrate
(96,043 posts)The Treasury giving a receipt for some sum received says nothing about whether the real profits were actually equivalent to that sum, and on the record, there is no reason to believe the amount paid over does reflect actual profits.

Someone points out that the Panthers are NOT winless... that person doesn't need to be hit with a littany of posts talking about how BAD the Panthers are. That was never the point. The point was a misstatement to start the whole deal...
The Magistrate
(96,043 posts)That 'all' is, to put it mildly, likely a lie. What you posted is far from establishing it is not, and that all profits actually realized were paid in.
WarGamer
(18,913 posts)I never claimed any of this was accurate or fair... I don't know if they paid $30 or $3,000,000
I was responding to a very specific claim. I googled it and answered the question.
Adding more to this is really silly. Of course Trumps lie... that's what they do. But we a story from NPR in 2018, verified by the Treasury that they paid SOMETHING.
If you can find out the amount of that payment... or how the profit was calculated... let's see it.

(1,068 posts)So the son of greatest grifter this country has ever seen expects us to believe that his father would allow any profits to be given away to anybody let alone the federal government. His own father pitched a fit when he found out that money donated to the inauguration fund wasn't his. He is quoted as saying that it was his money. Eric himself was accused of overcharging a children's cancer charity that booked a golf event at one of the Trump Courses. This was one of the allegations led to the Trump Foundation being shut down and all of the Trump children being forbidden from being on any future charitable foundation boards.
The gaslighting by this family is epic.

(792 posts)Little Eric is just confused. He thinks the U.S. Treasury was his family's personal piggy bank. That's why he says it was "donated" to the U.S. Treasury. He means it was donated to the Trump family as a gift.

Note that the staff report uses the term "profit" broadly to include all revenues, not net profits, which apparently is what Trump claimed to be donating.

Wonder Why
(7,296 posts)There are profits and there are profits. A lot of movie/TV series stars got taken because they settled for a share of the profits instead of a much smaller share of the gross when it turned out that, because of other costs, there were somehow no profits on a movie or TV series that grossed hundreds of millions so the actors/actress share turned out to be zero.
When the first U.S. Transcontinental RR was built, both Union Pacific and Central Pacific lost money and went bankrupt even with all the government grants of money and land. Turns out their execs grossly overpaid their own privately owned companies to do the work and those companies paid big dividends leaving the RRs with no money to operate.

As you probably know, Winston Groom got $350k for the book rights and 3% of net. Thanks to Hollywood accounting, the movie that made $678M worldwide didnt actually make any money. Box office link below.
Groom did settle. Not sure if the amount but Im sure it was a lot. Paramount was worried other authors wouldnt sell them rights.
