Yes I know today is an anniversary and it's going to be on everyones mind...
But sometimes it seems like politicos think these concepts motivate the average voter.
IMHO... they don't.
Why doesn't Biden go after a solid chunk of the Trump base, seniors?
Start talking about raising SS benefits and I don't mean COLA. In 2020, Biden talked about it...
How about the cap?
Seniors have taken the brunt of the inflation monster.
Kitchen table, kitchen table. maybe propose increased EITC for parents?
Maybe make EV credits easier and not harder to get?
USED EV's?
First time home buyer FED programs at sub 4% interest rates?

(94,786 posts)It IS an abstract concept. And people who feel that the Government isnt dealing with their problems dont necessarily see the problem of losing Democratic safeguards. You have to fake the argument in specifics as to how losing Democracy would affect them.

There will be plenty of opportunities to talk about kitchen table issues, but fighting fascism must be front and Center for the next year.

You do know what "economic insecurity" stands for, don't you?

(35,389 posts)even Trump so far. MAGAS are against EVs. Biden ran a couple days on the economy then dropped it, the
economy is his strongest case.

I think more people understand whats at stake than polls indicate.

(1,067 posts)Under a Democracy, hard to eliminate Social Security. You need Republican both houses and president, and even then they may worry about re-election. Under Dictator Trump, he'll just do it unilaterally and there will be nothing you can do.
Anyone counting on their Social Security benefits when they retire?
Then it get's increasingly nuanced for the low information voters to understand, but we have to try: In a dictatorship,
Medicare? Gone
Obamacare? Gone
Federal student loans? Gone
Internet neutrality? Gone
Freedom of speech? Gone. And if you think you're on Trump's side, you can't have one difference of opinion. Keep it to yourself.
Journalism? Only Trump regulated propaganda (and reporters falling out of windows)
Oil prices higher because those are his friends, and no more electric cars. Or solar power, or wind.
Food prices higher because tarrifs, and no immigrants to harvest crops
Join the military for advancement? No, your children will fight anywhere Trump pleases, including for Russia, with minimal pay
Clean water? no longer regulated
Clean air? ditto
Elections? for a while they might pretend...or not

(12,485 posts)Remember the recent polling that showed a large number of people saying US Democracy isn't good...??
https://news.gallup.com/poll/548120/record-low-satisfied-democracy-working.aspx
WASHINGTON, D.C. -- A new low of 28% of U.S. adults are satisfied with the way democracy is working in the country. The current figure is down from the prior low -- 35% measured shortly after the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol by rioters trying to prevent Congress from certifying Joe Bidens victory in the 2020 presidential election.
