But no one showed up.
The problem: The temperature was below freezing and, according to the campaign, people were parking in a garage underground and entering through the hotel.
Phillips ended up pouring coffee for the staffers who were there.
Sometimes if you build it, they dont come, he said.

(5,410 posts)and then went off to attend to more important business....
Before 'Dean who' presumed to challenge 'Fighting Joe Biden' for renomination,
I had never heard of him.... and neither did most other people, other than his constituents of his congressional district....
It is very poetic. "Sometimes you build it, but they don't come"...
That should give you a clue, Dean....

(53,544 posts)If it was indoors then why would temperature be a factor?
yardwork
(69,643 posts)However, people were parking in an indoor garage and entering the lobby that way. So, there was no foot traffic at his truck.
The weather wasn't really an issue - 22 degrees in New Hampshire is nothing. His team just screwed up.
Extremely poor logistics. If he can't organize a coffee hour how is he going to run the country?

(5,370 posts)Did they ever. Sheesh. Almost feel sorry for the guy. (Not that sorry.)
yardwork
(69,643 posts)However, people running for president are supposed to know how to hire staffers who can manage a parking lot coffee hour.
This says a lot about his campaign, all bad.
If he can't hire people who can actually run a campaign competently, how's he going to run a country? I think we have our answer.

(131,231 posts)The weather wasn't the problem. The whole thing is kind of pathetic - he was actually a pretty competent Congressman; he should have stuck to what he was good at.

(37,191 posts)what difference would it make that they used a parking garage and came up through the hotel?
doesn't sound like this guy is able to get his message out clearly: I'LL BE IN THE PARKING LOT!! WITH A REPAIR TRUCK!! DON'T ASK AT THE FRONT DESK BECAUSE THEN THEY'LL TELL ME TO MOVE MY TRUCK AND LEAVE THE PARKING LOT

(26,399 posts)didn't plan a counter-event, in case of bad weather. Perhaps you should of thought of this? Your excuse 'if you build it, etc.' doesn't sit w/ me very well. You just planned badly, and didn't have a counter-event in case of bad weather. Leaves an big issue in my mind about your abilities to plan, direct, etc. and be 'presidential'.

(69,643 posts)It was 22 degrees, in January in New Hampshire. That's a nice day.

(26,399 posts)for perhaps a snow/rain mix, which is already making things a mess here (went to the grocery store, and good grief, everybody and their kitchen sink was there!). I just hope that we don't get too much crap on the ground here, it's already starting to freeze again, and yesterday, they had all kinds of accidents (roads were nasty). I'm just glad that we don't even get near the cars, to go out, it's not worth it. We just wait it out.

Kick in to the DU tip jar?
This week we're running a special pop-up mini fund drive. From Monday through Friday we're going ad-free for all registered members, and we're asking you to kick in to the DU tip jar to support the site and keep us financially healthy.
As a bonus, making a contribution will allow you to leave kudos for another DU member, and at the end of the week we'll recognize the DUers who you think make this community great.
