I don't normally have anxiety but some days with the polls so close it starts to freak me out. Is it possible our democracy could fall and this insane nutcase end up our dictator? I'm sure glad he is almost 80. I think if he is convicted he will for sure lose and I think he has already run a campaign that is too extreme for average Americans once they start tuning in. But it sure can be nerve wracking.
A couple of weeks ago I woke up after a bad dream with Trump winning and everything falling apart. My heart was pounding. It's so stunning it's a close race with this lunatic!

(1,392 posts)I just don't understand. Most retired people depend on at least one source of income or health insurance that would be in jeopardy if Trump followed through will past threats. How anyone could believe he would make social security/veterans benefits or Medicare/Medicaid or low-income subsidies and housing better is beyond me. And his threat to workers is even worse. (Union busting, firing perceived non-loyal civil servants, turning back regulations that protect the safety and welfare of workers, etc.) There is so much damage a sociopath can inflict on other people.

(55,334 posts)I've accepted that millions of Americans have given up on democracy
It's annoying although I think they're still minority, even if they're probably a majority of the Republican Party by now.
But what really annoys me is the number of Democrats in this forum who confidently assert that (1) polls showing Biden in trouble right now "don't mean anything" (although they showed biting ahead they'd be crowing about how inevitable our November win would be) or (2) that Magats won't vote for anyone else with the Republican nomination, or (3) Magats won't vote for a woman. There is of course zero evidence to support any of these assertions.
This willful denial of the dangers ahead for the Republic reminds me of how certain we were of Clinton in 2016 and Kerry in 2004. Frankly, it reminds me of how naive Republicans were that we would be greeted as liberators in Iraq.
Of course overconfidence doesn't really matter right now. Situations on the ground are always capable of change. Biden support could rally, especially if there's a peace deal in Gaza or a breakthrough in Ukraine. Good news in the economy doesn't seem to be helping our side. Only continual Republican screwuppery in Congress seems to be of any help.
But Biden is about 9 - 10 points below where Obama was at this time in 2012. I don't think we need to be worried or fretting just yet, but would be naive to not be concerned about what each of us can do to support the president and the ticket this year.

(998 posts)I've had anxiety about Trump's never ending quest to destroy America and the rest of the free world.
His supporters have been relentless since June of 2015.
They seem to enjoy how anxious the rest of us get about their orange messiah.

(12,801 posts)...which was 5:30 am my time in Europe, and saw the headline "Trump Surges". I went to bed knowing Clinton would win a close election. And it's been one stressor after another and I'm ready for it to stop. I'm personally fine with the stress of all his indictments helping Mother Nature move her timeline up a bit.
