Let's finally admit who these people are.

Iowa Republicans poked democracy in the eye Monday when they overwhelmingly embraced a rapist who incited an attack against Congress so he could illegally remain in office. These people looked at all the other terrible Republicans running and picked the guy with the mugshot.

The Iowa caucus was called for disgraced former [guy] and admitted foreign asset Donald Trump about a half hour after it started.

Although Republicans and an enabling media might refer to the caucus winner as “President Trump,” he officially stopped squatting in the Oval Office three years ago. During that time, he’s been on trial for defamation and fraud while also racking up 91 felony charges in four separate criminal investigations. Yet somehow Democrats are “soft on crime” because we don’t support summarily executing migrants or the homeless.

2. Most of us have known all along who Trump supporters are.

I wrote a comment not long also on a NYT article about all the media stores since 2016 trying to understand why people support Trump. Over the years, they’ve reported that it economics, it’s religion, it’s his charisma, it’s resentment at being looked down on by liberals, it’s the loss of good-paying jobs (those that seem only to be created by Democrats), and every other excuse they could find while the real ones.

People support Trump because of his white supremacy and his hatred for brown and black people. They re convinced that white people are getting the shaft in this country because they now have to compete for college admissions and jobs with black and brown people, whom they automatically assume are being given advantages simply because of their skin color. They assume that black and brown people re leas intelligent, do not work as hard as they do, and are all welfare cheats living off white people’s tax dollars. Trump made them feel seen and validated their feelings and of victimization. He made it okay for them to publicly be hateful and even violent to minorities and to anyone seen to be against Trump. That is the Trump cult. People living in an alternate universe where they are the winners instead of the losers in life.
