Democrat Frost challenges GOP to introduce bill to remove Statue of Liberty
by Lauren Irwin - 01/17/24 3:37 PM ET

snip//

While at a House Oversight and Accountability Committee hearing Wednesday, Frost called out his GOP colleagues — and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.) specifically — for their treatment of immigrants and their sweeping bill H.R. 2 that would dramatically restrict the asylum process and create stricter policies and surveillance on regional migration and undocumented immigrants.

Frost said immigrants deserve better than what they are being offered.

[excerpt]“Don’t welcome them if you plan to reject them. If you keep pushing your bigoted H.R. 2 bill, then also pass this bill. I’ve taken the liberty of drafting it for you,” Frost said, holding up a piece of paper. “It removes the Statue of Liberty, our largest symbol that tells people to come here.”

This is who you are, removing the fabric of America. So, I want to know which Republican, who supports and voted for H.R.2, will introduce this bill,” he continued. “If you’re gonna support H.R.2 and these bigoted measures, the least you can do is not be a damn liar.”

Frost accused GOP lawmakers of being more interested in “peddling hate” than finding solutions that will fix the immigration system.

Republicans say that the immigration bill, which passed the House last year with no support from Democrats, is necessary to stop the thousands of migrants who are arriving at the southern border.

They will just convert low level crimes into a prison farm labor work force. Certain people will be sentenced straight to a farm.

More police will be hired to guard them. Assets will be seized to pay the police. Farmers will get very cheap labor. People of color will be working the fields in chains.

The good people of georgia will be happy indeed. (sarcasm dripping with disdain).

There’s a reason child labor laws are being relaxed in red states.

All it will take is a referral from a school safety officer, principal, or judge.

Brilliant!

While the House MAGAts do not give a shit about people fleeing their countries with nothing more than a few possessions, draft a bill to have the Statue of Liberty removed from NY Harbor.

Remove that symbol of Freedom and breathing free from the face of the earth so that anyone seeking to come to the US will be deterred. See how many House MAGAts support such legislation. I am sure the Majority will jump at the chance to tell the world, "Fuck you! The US is now CLOSED!"

That IS the way Republicans certainly seem to want it.

Hang it around their miserable necks, tied in place with a nice, big RED bow. After all, red IS their team color, isn’t it?

Because deep down, I suspect they’re all afraid of him and don’t want to make him angry.

That volcanic anger thing is a manipulation - meant to scare and intimidate. That’s a strategy to make it easier for him to get his way. Make people just give in so as not to have to face “the wrath of false-god.”

The Repug members of the Jacksonville (FL) City Council are now raising questions about "last month's sudden removal of Confederate statues" from a city park (in a particularly diverse neighborhood). Their beef is that private entities paid the cost, not the City. They are working on legislation that would seek to block future donations from funding such activities without the Council's approval. The newly-elected Democratic mayor approved the removal.

The removed statue featured Confederate women, one holding the "stars and bars" and the other reading a book to children. A year ago, the Duval County School Board renamed a local high school, previously know as Robert E. Lee HS. There was even a voter referendum that showed public support behind such action.

So the statues that honor traitors and their wives/mothers are OK with them. Got it!
