General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsOne of the best things about DU is that smart people post here
and even if I might disagree with them in most cases they are respectful and put out
their thoughts logically. As I have posted before I am working my way back from being
close to death and now I am up and walking and ready to go back home and the intellectual
feed back as long as learning how to use a Mac laptop have been a gift to my crazy ass
brain and my rehabilitation.
Thank You!
Back home in under 2 weeks. I cant wait to cook my own meals, see friends and neighbors,
and have my 110 pound lab animal snuggle with me.

(77,324 posts)The first time I got out of the hospital/nursing facility and I
went to their house and my D in Law apologized
about the house being messy and when I 1st saw it with the Xmas tree, the presents, grand daughters,
and my lab on the sofa with his dachshund buddy laying on top of her I thought that was the prettiest thing
I have ever seen. We just got a little play time in the new snow this AM.

(76,706 posts)We've had three labs. 92#, 85#, & 73#.
Our doggies were not of the English variety. Just standard north american.
Are the English breeds bigger?
BTW: get well soon!

(77,324 posts)She gained a chunk in 23 after her play buddies
. 2 boxers*
. moved away although she has lost
some weight now that she has another dog to spend time with as I was in medical places. I love
seeing her with her new family
. Son, D in L, the 2 girls, and her dachshund Roscoe. When I 1st
got her at 3.5 months I thought she was the dumbest dog I have ever had but she turned out to be
the smartest one. She started bringing me her leash, my shoes, my hat, and my coat when she wants
to go out but she is the first female and she is a bit of a princess about snow, cold, and being outdoors
@ times
the males I had used to wake me @ dark thirty in the am to go and roll in the snow.
I swore I was done with dogs after my black lab Fluebie passed but I was working @ the kennel where
other labs were from and I took a picture of her in her run and after that it was all over.
Btw she is much more socially driven than play driven my male lug head labs.
Sorry to
*. I used to open my back door and say Emma and she would go down the alley and push the
gate open to play with her friends. I miss those dogs and their owner. The owner was a great
guy
. A gay guy lawyer who would pour me wine as the dogs would beat each other up. My
friend quit the law and became a nurse and then a hospice nurse. I used to ask him if he wanted
to go out, drink some beers, and meet some women
he would always say no. He is very smart
and we started talking after Russia installed Trump because it didnt pass the smell test. I miss
his friendship and trading some food that one of had made
. He made salmon with a dill sauce
and butter biscuits. Life was good on those days. I had one neighbor tell me that he didnt know
that I was gay to which I said I am not.

(76,706 posts)He gets along with all the other dogs, and the other dog owners at the park are happy to see him.
He's right popular!
He & your puppy would likely get along famously.

(20,897 posts)I too find that DU has many highly intellectual people that I have learned from. Often when listening to Thom Hartman, he will give a shout out to DU about certain topics of discussion he has read or someone on his staff has read.
I have taken heat at times for my opinions, but I try to remain civil when expressing my opinions and stick to the topic at hand.

(77,324 posts)Now I had to be extra careful about falling and slick spots
. I slipped once on a hill that had some
ice under the grass but overall I made it around OK and watched my 1st grade grand girl climb up some
playground equipment and then do some butt scoots down the hill. I had more than one person tell
me that being out in the snow and cold wasnt good rehab therapy. I told them for me it was perfect
therapy for my crazy ass but I skipped saying opposed to laying around a nursing home that smells like $#@*& and has 90% of its guests never going to get better with different levels of mental decline.
My roommate for the past 6 weeks is in the process of dying. That can be a little depressing but to
watch my son, granddaughter, and lab play in the new snow was a tonic to my soul.
Btw some of the nurses and doctors dont see the humor in me asking if I can run my chain saw
in a week?

(55,137 posts)whenever I had had to spend a few days in the hospital. My dad brought my little one into the hospital with no problem, I insisted. She was so happy that she curled up behind me and fell asleep on the hospital bed since she was only 7 pounds she was tiny. The staff heard there was a cute little puppy in my room and they came in just to see her and they couldn't see her unless I reached behind and woke her up.
I think the visit was the best medicine for both of us. We just needed to be together and the positive energy flowed. I also know that my hospital roommate felt better after holding her.
I know exactly what you mean...just being "home" is medicine itself. You can finally really relax.
