Pro-Palestinian demonstrators targeted by apparent stink bomb at Columbia University

A group of demonstrators at Columbia University say they were attacked with a stink bomb during a gathering in support of Palestinians amid the ongoing Israel-Hamas war.

The New York Police Department told ABC News there is a report on file for assault after the protesters said they smelled a foul odor and began to feel nauseous, accompanied by headaches, during a protest Friday. The victims refused medical attention at the scene, according to the NYPD.

...

Several of the protesters were from the groups Students for Justice in Palestine and Jewish Voice for Peace, according to posts from the groups on social media.

In a social media post, the Students for Justice in Palestine said "student protesters were sprayed by a chemical weapon" during a "pro-Palestine and anti-genocide" protest. They referred to the attack as a "hate crime" and said several students continued to experience burning eyes and nausea hours after the attack.

Interesting comment, given that there are lots of people from non-Western countries at these demonstrations. David__77 Jan 2024 #2
They're the ones complaining about the stink, maybe they should be more sensitive to their friends? tritsofme Jan 2024 #4
Non-Western demonstrators deserve respect and should not be the subject of jokes that perpetuate negative stereotypes. David__77 Jan 2024 #11
I agree, these people at the protest are incredibly rude, saying such things of their friends in attendance. tritsofme Jan 2024 #13
So, you're only referring to the protesters other than the ones from non-Western countries? David__77 Jan 2024 #14
Whoever is complaining that their friends are incredibly stinky, I suppose. tritsofme Jan 2024 #15

They have the right to speak. They don't have the right to involve anyone else.

Also, sometimes, the road is occupied consistent with a permit.

they are flinging and/or the wages of not washing their nasty asses has finally come home to roost and there wasn't a convenient Jew or maybe a black person to blame so the solution was more lies.

https://dimse.info/skunk/

“Skunk” is a malodorant, non-lethal weapon used for crowd control. The liquid’s strong odor is marketed as an improvement over other crowd control weapons (CCWs) such as rubber bullets and tear gas. Skunk” is dispersed as a form of yellow mist, fired from a water cannon, which leaves a powerful odor similar to rot or sewage on whatever it touches. Skunk is also sold in handheld canisters and in grenades which can be thrown or fired as projectiles.

The company later marketed Skunk to law enforcement agencies worldwide, specifically American local police departments. Several US police departments, including the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department, purchased it.

In 2017 the Israeli Newspaper reported: Skunk is liable to cause physical harm, such as intense nausea, vomiting and skin rashes, in addition to any injury resulting from the powerful force of the spray. Examinations by police and army medical teams in the past also indicated that the excessive coughing caused by exposure can result in suffocation”.

If so, that would be notable. Regardless, it constitutes physical assault. While it is hardly equivalent to the shootings of three young men wearing keffiyehs it is assault nonetheless.

And in other cases would consider it a criminal assault worthy of prosecution.
