Ranting about the "economic implications" of that decision:

(9,223 posts)Also, the $ congress 'borrowed' from the Social Security fund shortly after Reagan RAISED our payments into the system AND decided our payments out of the fund after retirement would be taxable is getting some notice from voters in some circles. The rich do NOT want to have to cough up money to put the money back by way of putting the tax rates back up to where they might pay the same rate as school teachers.
And when GOP boot-lickers complain about the deficit, they NEVER bring up all the tax breaks and cuts the richest got just in the Trump years. But they ALWAYS bring up Social Security, which is NOT funded by general taxes.
Then there is the facet of his 'worry' that corporations are going to run low on desperate workers if the birth rate falls more. GOP pols work for the people who hold down incomes, abuse and exploit workers and want to make sure people are hungry enough to put up with more abuse and exploitation. By the way, this is also happening in Europe. Working people are wising up and families are smaller because we can't afford large ones and women deserve power over their own reproductive lives.

(77,270 posts)Unemployment is 3.7%. Exactly what would those extra able bodied people be doing?
They'd be driving down wages with more people looking for the same number of jobs. which would make the revenue to SS & Medicare toward neutral. 5% of 90,000 is $4,500. If the wages failed just to $85k, SS get $4,250.
We now need 18 jobs for every 17 that exists now. Nearly a 5.9% increase in jobs, with excess capacity still at 10-15%.
The math doesn't work.
More people doesn't necessarily mean more revenue. In fact, it is likely it causes a cut.
Not that Johnson would understand the numbers.

(14,754 posts)The massive redistribution of wealth from workers to Billionaires - whose income is mostly exempt from SS Taxes, insured that there would be a shortfall.
Keeping wages low has always been a priority for the Republicans.
