"Texas lost another case at the U.S. Supreme Court against President Joe Biden's administration.
In this case, the federal government is fighting the state's decision to put razor wire on the border that blocks U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers from being able to access migrants. The incident unfolded after three migrants died in the river between the U.S. and Mexico. The Border Patrol was prevented from being able to save the family, which included two children.
On Monday, the High Court ruled that the federal government decides border issues and not Texas. Now, residents are demanding that they be allowed to leave the United States altogether."

Let's see, Texas receives 68.2 BILLION dollars from the federal government, and when the next hurricane or national disaster happens, do they understand that FEMA is a FEDERAL PROGRAM?

(2,859 posts)We need to start moving service members to other states so if they ever do try to leave we won't
have as many members to transfer.

(935 posts)..by President Lincoln. However
expulsion has not been on the table before. Of course military installations would remain US territory. (think Guantanamo Bay)
Another idea, return The Repulic to Mexico. We could make amends for that imperialist land grab in 1846.

(2,859 posts)True, but if you start transferring members and equipment your reducing their income and realize that there is more at issue
then making threats to succession. Years ago when I was in the service,23years, I would never go to TX. I stayed on ships before
I would go down there. If you start moving members and equipment out at a slow pace it will not be noticed till they realize what is going on.

(12,660 posts)You just want all the money. States you send people to on buses should get that money. Move all that border administration costs to other states. Fuck you right back Texas if that is how you feel. Join Mexico.
Your Governor can't even keep the lights on imagine how you would be on your own? If Texas doesn't turn blue this next election it never will. Come on Texas silence these voices of division for good. Clean out the red.

(33,424 posts)All they did was rule on an emergency motion. They did not rule on the merits of the case. That will come up through the court system and the SC may rule on the actual case in the future.

(2,393 posts)Having said that, let me point out that Abbot is deliberately sowing the seeds of a 2nd Civil War.
He is not alone. There really is a vast right wing conspiracy. There has been for a long, long time.

(8,103 posts)I agree with up thread. Start to transfer facilities out of Texas. As soon as all their revenue sources and Federal programs dry up, they'll scream to come back. After all, nothing the Dallas Cowboys do will mean a thing!
I'm sick of this crap. Charge Abbot with insurrection, obstruction of justice, and anything else that comes up. As far as I can see, he's got three deaths on his head. How does he sleep at night?
Open the bidding process for the new locations to move the infrastructure. See if that sobers them up.

(10,860 posts)prefer that we rid ourselves of this folks. Texas was not like this until about 30 years ago. Like many Bible Belt states they were victim of the "moral majority scam".
Having said that it is very frustrating to spend you golden years in such a backwards political environment.
First step is to get rid of Ted Cruz in 2024 and I think more will follow.

(2,317 posts)Hes often wrong. In fact, Abbott is rarely right. But the article is still a lot of drama-mongering. Theres secessionists in every state. Nobody takes them seriously. You shouldnt either.
JohnSJ
(98,883 posts)While there are no doubt secessionists in every state, I suspect Texas has a good share of them.
I remember when Texas was blue, and Ann Richards was Governor
I have no idea how Texas could have moved so far right
TexasDem69
(2,317 posts)There are 30 million Texans. Im sure more than a handful are secessionists.
No idea why Texas moved right. You can ask the same of Ohio or Florida, or why California moved left.
JohnSJ
(98,883 posts)admit. Remember we had Reagan as our Governor who did some pretty unsavory things in our state, not the least to close a lot of mental health facilities which forced a good number out in the streets.

(24,982 posts)And the difference is huge
Texas:
Total balance of payments: $36.2 billion
Per capita balance of payments: $1,280
California:
Total balance of payments: -$13.7 billion
Per capita balance of payments: -$348

(8,103 posts)about taking down razor wire from the middle of a river, which we never put up to begin with. We are not sniffling and crying about losing. We are not trying to take our ball and run home. We're not having standoffs with the Border Patrol. We're not screaming to secede like spoiled brats.
Just accept it. The Cowboys lost. There's always next year in the LFA. Go for it.

(68,198 posts)here's the thing: she has the means to leave in case she needs to. She complains that she can't find a good gynecologist because the good ones have all moved, but she can fly to her parents home in the Boston suburbs and get great gyn care. A woman's health care should not be determined by how she can scramble to get the health care she needs. Flying to Boston takes time and effort, even if the money is not a problem. This puts her at a disadvantage immediately. It's ridiculous.

(8,385 posts)The rampant demagoguery has really complicated issues such as military readiness and immigration enforcement. Conservative pols and radio personalities have been building this hate movement for a long time. How do you de-1984 all these folks? Cruelty seems to be their central political message. Honestly, the nation will be better off when we boomers exit stage left and take our hate and prejudice with us...but is isn't just us boomers. The next-gen haters are pretty rabid.

I remember road trips with my family when I was a kid. Going over the state highway in Texas to Oklahoma was a stark reminder of what having a modern highway system can mean to a state's economic fortunes. Oklahoma roads were a joke.
then the Interstate Highway System was built....

(28,836 posts)On DU, it's a constant topic of conversation. Seemingly, a lot of people have no idea that Texas can't secede.
In Texas, it's just the same 20% who've been bleating about secession since 1869. They bleat, they die, they get replaced. The overall % hardly ever changes. We generally just ignore them.

(9,056 posts)by all the talking heads in all of this is that the Federal government has control so that you have uniformity of regulations. If you didn't have uniformity and each state was able to make it's own rules and enforcement you would have an uncontrollable hodgepodge from state to state. The concept of uniformity is also found in other areas like defense, commerce, federal taxation, maritime law, aviation etc.
Can you imagine the chaos in the Gulf of Mexico if Texas and Florida decided to have all their own maritime laws and their own Navies/Coast Guard? Because the simple and quick answer shoots down all of the MAGA crap about taking things into their own hands is precisely the reason the media doesn't bother with it. It would cut down on their ability to have segments with people hollering at each other. Displaying tension, anger and disputes gets eyeballs on the program and that means ratings and bigger dollars for ad revenue.

I wonder if their banks FDIC insurance could just be removed since they plan to secede? With no insurance the banks would quickly fail and there would be a depression style rush. The same screaming to secede would be the same begging to come back.
And for those who say they have oil they can sell is it with an actual business in Texas or somewhere in the US? Most countries wouldn't dare buy from Texas if they thought it would bring about our wrath.
I don't think it would be hard to strike back. I just feel bad for the millions who keep their heads down and try to survive instead of the loud blowhards we always follow.
