Abbott: Texas prepared in 'unlikely event' Biden federalizes National Guard

Abbott: Texas prepared in ‘unlikely event’ Biden federalizes National Guard (The Hill)

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) said Texas is prepared in the “unlikely event” that President Biden federalizes the National Guard as the standoff over the southern border heats up.

“Well, first, I’d be shocked. That would be a boneheaded move on his part, total disaster,” Abbott told conservative host Tucker Carlson on his new show “Uncensored.”

“For one, as you might imagine, we are prepared in the event that that unlikely event does occur to make sure that we will be able to continue exactly what we’ve been doing over the past month and that is building these barriers,” Abbott added.

This week, the Texas National Guard appeared to ignore a Supreme Court decision approving the removal of the razor wire barriers, and continued construction along the border. Abbott has justified his decision, while criticizing Biden for not enforcing immigration laws.

Hardly.

What are these career officers going to do? Barricade themselves in their offices and put out shoot to kill orders?

Nationalize the guard and start arresting any officer that fails to follow an order. Even so much as a stutter step by an officer can be career ending.

Flag or senior commissioned officers aren’t going to blow their careers and pensions over barbed wire.

I just don’t see it.

We don’t have to send in troops. THEY are the troops.

I’m not talking about some Texas yokel enlisted man. There are full time commissioned officers that have a lifetime invested.

Either they stand down or that’s it for their careers.

No more pay. No more pensions. No more healthcare. No housing if they live on base. Nothing. Cut off. That’s it.

There are no do overs for mutiny. Dishonorable discharge = fucked in the private sector too.

I’m not saying some won’t act up but this thing will blow over and they will be finished.

Once fired they can pretend they are still in the Guard but they will be like the guy in Office Space (minus the pay). No more checks. No more direct deposit. No more healthcare. Nothing. And picked up at the government’s leisure.

I'm not saying they just will not listen, I'm saying if Abbott tells them "No, you listen to me" and gives them some BS speech.

As for pay, doesn't Texas pay them?

Pointless to argue, since it hasn't happened yet. I personally doubt Biden even tries to take them under his command.

And I don’t think you can compare today’s issue of migrants at the border to upending a whole economic system based on slavery.

The two motivations are not remotely comparable. One is a political issue used to gin up racists in an election year and the other entailed pulling the economic rug out from under an entire system.

Even running a State Guard/Militia is expensive as hell. Texas will find that without federal dollars supporting that infrastructure and facility, they're going to go broke pretty durn quick.

This is a move by the Texas White Nationalists Billionaires Club to carve their own kingdom out of the US while still benefitting from existing federal investments, policies, and infrastructure. It's basically a hostile takeover move. Just business.
They are short term clever, long term stupid. Their plan for after their takeover is "And we all live in charge happily ever after, because nothing is going to change other than the ownership of this franchise."
On edit - it's obvious they view the US like a company with states as franchises. They don't see people, they see dollar signs and their own comfort.

On the other hand, they would probably just back down and cry about the “Evil Marxist Government” on Fox News.

If Biden does nothing, he’s signaling to these rogue governors that they can ignore Supreme Court decisions and do whatever they want, allowing them to escalate poor treatment of immigrants and others.

I am extremely thankful to know that President Biden will NOT be taking advice from the internet when dealing with this toxic issue.

However, my thought is that he just federalize the Texas National Guard and place them under his Constitutional command as CINC. The wingnuts have actually made that a pretty easy move by screaming like banshees that the border issue is a "national emergency".

Federalizing the Texas National Guard makes them subject to the UCMJ.

"Soldiers and airmen in the National Guard of the United States are subject to the UCMJ only if activated in a Federal capacity under Title 10 by an executive order issued by the President."

You then pick someone like General Honore as Task Force Commander.

You ORDER them to remove the "illegal" barriers. Those that refuse, you Court Martial, or take to Non-Judicial Punishment and begin processing Bad Conduct discharges, or Other Than Honorable separations due to Failure to Obey, Misconduct, and Conduct Unbecoming.

If you discharge one dumbass and strip them of all pay, benefits and entitlements, the remainder will get their treasonous asses in line so fast your head will spin.

I worked with a lot of blowhards and braggarts. They all turned into sniveling little pissants when "standing before the Mast".
