We're a cruel nation all in the name of God republicans in congress.

64000 babies conceived by rape born in states that Roe was overturned.
And fuck the children and the mothers if they need any kind of assistance.
That’s socialism yet the repigs get lifetime medical and pension after terms in congress and they got problems socialism.
We give welfare to the wealthy and subsidies and tax breaks to corporations.

My taxes should be used to benefit the people that truly need help.

This was over 30 years ago, long before Roe was overturned, when “drive-by” deliveries were in vogue and a woman was only allowed 24 hours in a hospital when giving birth, in order to maximize profits.

We have allowed barbarism, in the name of religion, racism and corporate profits to infect our democracy. There is a long road ahead toward a more perfect union.

When I had my second son (C section) my hospital roommate was only allowed to stay 24 hours after giving birth as per her crappy medical insurance. Figuring your hospital stay in hours. That was new to me.

I got to stay two whole nights as a C section patient.

Women used to squat in the fields to give birth, as though that were any kind of a rational explanation. Unfortunately, that’s how insurance carriers too often view women.

No thought or mention of how many women died in childbirth during those thousands of years, though.

… is forming a convoy heading to the southern border to stop migrants from entering the United States.

Not sure what god these people are following because Jesus told us to welcome the stranger.

As Jesus tells the condemned on Judgement Day, “I was a stranger and you did not take me in.” And also “Whatever you do unto the least of these, you do unto me.”

90% of these migrants are legally turning themselves in and asking for asylum. There’s a legal process which Congress won’t fund enough to adjudicate these applicants.

Our national origin story is that rugged, hardworking white men were given this country by God to develop and use. The country was given to white people because we are superior, smart, and willing to work and make something of ourselves and the nation - that's the myth.

This myth is not true. In fact, Europeans stumbled on new territory, bringing diseases that wiped out most of the humans who were already here. As more Europeans came, a lot of the eastern seaboard was depopulated. It's fairly easy to "conquer" land when most of the people who lived there have died already.

Then, white people "developed" the land using Black slaves for labor. And the country grew westward because huge sections of it were sold to the U.S. by other nations that had claimed it (see above). As European immigrants poured in, the U.S. military continued to conquer people who had few resources to fight back.

To cover up this shameful history, we created a lot of myths about God giving this nation to deserving white people who did it all by own individual selves. The problem is that's not a helpful story at all. It's false; individuals didn't "build" this country. Our true accomplishments - like the U.S. Constitution - were hammered out through messy group projects. It's through group collaboration that real strength is gained.

Our myths sneer at kindness and collaboration. This is fatal. When the resources that sustain us run out we either have to adopt new myths or we're done for.

Our own constitution was strongly influenced by the Iroquois Confederacy.

https://www.history.com/news/iroquois-confederacy-influence-us-constitution

They were a bit more civilized and organized than we were lead to believe.

Here's some more about them:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iroquois

And another fact, the structure known as the Woodhenge in Ohio was probably built by the Iroquois.
Also the name Ohio is based on and Iroquois word that means "great river"

I was taught in the 1960s that our founding fathers were inspired by European philosophers and Ancient Rome to create a democracy. But contemporary accounts note that the authors of the Constitution directly copied many aspects of Native American government structure. They acknowledged it themselves at the time - but this influence was erased in later history books. We were taught lies and half-truths.

This is the false history that many white Americans yearn for. This is why DeSantis, Haley, Trump and so many other Republicans say what they say.

I grew up in central Ohio, where all the indigenous people were wiped out in massacres. For thousands of years people lived in the forests there and along the rivers and lakes. They left behind well-made stone tips and tools, and amazing earthen mounds. Their ghosts are everywhere but they are gone.
