As a con artist, Trump is unsurpassed in terms of his ability to persuade gullible idiots that his problems are their problems.

I can't say, but I heard a tv commentator says they didn't think he could raise funds for a court award.

If he pays for his legal expenses and judgements using political campaign contributions, that "appears to conflict with a federal ban on the personal use of donor dollars." However, Trump has already used tens of millions of dollars from campaign contributions to pay his legal expenses and gotten away with it.

https://apnews.com/article/trump-lawyers-millions-payments-2024-campaign-2e06de2a8a90b3752e7758dfea56a509

Federal campaign law states: "Using campaign funds for personal use is prohibited...Commission regulations provide a test, called the 'irrespective test,' to differentiate legitimate campaign and officeholder expenses from personal expenses...personal use is any use of funds in a campaign account of a candidate (or former candidate) to fulfill a commitment, obligation or expense of any person...if the expense would exist even in the absence of the candidacy or even if the officeholder were not in office, then the personal use ban applies." This would apply to the Carroll suit.

It's not clear whether Trump could raise money through some other fundraising mechanism to satisfy the Carroll judgement. I guess the Saudis (or Putin) could funnel the money through some arcane business arrangement, much like the $2B given Jared disguised as an "investment."

as far as the Saudis or Putin go, they're not likely to be interested in giving him money for 2 reasons:

1) his increasing mental instability. Even Putin backed off him while he was in office because he was acting so nutty.
2) unless he wins the office, what good is he?

I will never post a "live tweet" on DU and I wish others didn't. It only creates more traffic for the Xwitter owner. It's sufficient for us on DU to post a screenshot with no live links.

Also I think it's probably obvious that E. Jean Carroll didn't actually say this, it's a funny meme someone created using her photo that was taken for a different reason.
