(20,897 posts)I have been a Pro Football fan since 1966 and the NFL season is my favorite time of the year.
Taylor Swift dating and happy for Travis Kelce makes even the most manly of MAGA men tremble is poetry in motion. She is sticking it to the men in subtle ways that threaten their fragile truck loving, beer guzzling egos.
Good on ya Taylor.

Also its probably the most right wing conservative fan base in pro sports as well. MAGAT central.

(20,594 posts)A couple of things:
- KC is not all of Missouri and Kansas. I can assure you there are vast swaths of both states that are not blue through and through.
- Their war chant is racist AF and would be considered racist AF by most people here in any other context.

(8,249 posts)may I ask you: Upon this NDN reservation upon which I have lived and worked for 6 years, I know many native KC football fans, and we are very far from that Mo. Why or how do you supposes that is?
One thing I can tell you: they have far more serious problems than team names or chants, trust me on that. They enjoy many forms of entertainment same as anybody else.
The other thing: they are more than capable of preserving defending their heritage. They live it everyday.
They absolutely hate it when non-natives speak for them. They actually consider that a form of cultural appropriation
Some of my best friends are native.
I know a few as well. Its kind of unavoidable when you grow up and live in a state with the countrys largest native population. I have heard a vast array of opinions on this issue.
Anyway, worry about the Packers rather than defending racism. You are way out of your depth here. Thanks.

Oh and patients, 2,000 encounters or more per year, 8 years with the IHS now
I reckon I know a few Natives, more than a few thousands
Out of my depths huh? As a health care specialist I know for a fact: there are very few people on the face of this Earth that can do what I do for so long. It is extremely challenging. I get recruited every week from Alaska to Michigan and points everywhere for my position. The positions have been open for years too. The IHS struggles with recruiting and retention, it takes dedicated providers who are not interested in getting wealthy.
You are welcome to give it a try if you are so deep.
But like I said the challenges are greater than football names and chants, fair warning

(7,419 posts)I was responding to your claim that the Chiefs fan base us the most RW fan base in all pro sports. Utter BS and you should wash your hands after pulling that out of your ass.

But the players are not responsible. Tons of talent, not a fan but not a hater. Respect the skills of those athletes.
Just wanna see more Taylor pissing off MAGAs.
I hope Travis lets her walk out as a honorary captain with him for the coin flip. Then they have to see a Black man halftime show.
Let the games begin.

(28,261 posts)When Lamar Hunt was looking to move the team out of Dallas, he was persuaded by the great mayor of Kansas City, H. Roe Bartle, to bring them to KC. Bartle, who was a Boy Scout executive before becoming mayor, had been given the nickname "Chief" during his Scouting days. Hunt was so impressed with Bartle that he named the team "Chiefs" in Bartle's honor. The name "Chief" is no more pejorative to native Americans than the title "police chief" or "fire chief" or "chief executive." The Scouting program that Bartle founded was rooted in the customs and traditions of the Arapahoe tribe, and to this day, has the full approval and blessing of the Arapahoe tribal leadership. The program honors the ways of the native Americans in ways that are HIGHLY respectful of them, and its relationship with the Arapahoe tribe is strong and cordial and mutually respectful. I won't bother you with the details, but as a 50-year member of that program, I can attest that the program Bartle founded goes to very great lengths to maintain that mutually respectful relationship. I can also tell you that the team leadership from Clark Hunt on down is going to great lengths to discourage all the crap that fans have brought on relative to Native Americans.
So, no, the team name is NOT a slap at our native brothers. Please stop spreading that crap.

(212 posts)The point is that now, in the present time, the name and the gestures at the games are racist and offensive to native people.

(28,261 posts)Those who are offended by it don't know the facts of its origin. I am inclined to agree that the chant is offensive, and the team strongly discourages its use now.
I have a beaded necklace made by my great-great-grandmother, a Cherokee woman, for her wedding in 1862 that has multiple "swastikas" on it. So it does have innocent origins. But I am fully aware that it has more sinister implications to many, so I can't display it unless I can explain that it predates Nazis by more than 60 years.

Believe it or not, they have many more serious problems than cultural appropriation.

(11,223 posts)..over Taylor Swift is beyond hilarious. If they put a dollar in a jar every time her name gets mentioned on faux news or other rw sites in the next couple of weeks they might be able to pay off their monster trucks. This incredibly talented, beautiful, enlightened and independent role model is not only living rent free in their pea-sized brains, she has built a garage apartment for voter registration volunteers under their red hats. 🤯

My daughter found a loony claim this morning that the KC-Balt game was rigged so Taylor Swift can come infield at Super Bowl half time and campaign for Biden.

(4,413 posts)The San Francisco 49ers, when it was helmed by QB Colin Kaepernick years ago, was the team that made the NFL supposedly so "unwatchable" for them because of Kap and other players taking a knee for Black Lives Matter. Of course, the MAGAbillies lied about not watching football again because they've constantly complained this season about
the Kansas City Chiefs and one of their players dating Taylor Swift, who many on the far right once considered their "Aryan goddess" (their words, not mine). But she "betrayed" them by being a liberal as if these white supremacists had a chance in hell with her.
Shake it off, haters.
